Nous has an exciting opportunity for a talented and motivated Data Engineer to join our dynamic team, in our Melbourne or Sydney office. This role involves working on both client projects and internal data engineering initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data architecture and modelling, as well as experience in Microsoft data tools and services, including Azure Data Factory, SQL, AI Foundry, Power BI and more.

As a Data Engineer, you will:

  • Architect and implement new technical data solutions (or improvements to existing solutions), primarily with the Azure environment, to simplify, scale, and improve ROI 
  • Leverage the latest AI technologies (such as Azure AI Foundry) to design and build proof of concepts, both for internal purposes as well as client projects, for example, AI bots leveraging organisational data
  • Work as a consultant on client-facing projects and proposals, contributing expertise related to data engineering to deliverables as required
  • Setup and maintain enterprise architecture repositories 
  • Support, maintain and optimise the operations of existing data solutions, including data lakes, pipelines, corporate MS SQL data warehouse and dimensional models
  • Design and implement integrations and dimensional modelling for new datasets
  • Develop and publish detailed architectural and procedural documentation for core data capabilities and functions 
  • Provide expert support relating to business intelligence, reporting, and data analysis, including maintaining knowledge of data governance, features and trends to inform improvements
  • Deliver technical support to the business, including resolving data warehouse or reporting issues. Support, enable and encourage Nous’ self-management culture to extend to IT self-support where practical, including creating and maintaining user documentation, and responding to queries.
  • Become an expert in the data structures and KPI metrics at Nous and common client systems.
  • Develop, document, and implement changes following change control procedures

And the practical experience: 

  • 5+ years of working with Microsoft BI technologies including Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL DB, Power BI and DAX (certifications preferred
  • Strong working knowledge and experience in Azure cloud database services, including data storage, warehousing, processing and ELT
  • Demonstrated proficiency in architecting and deploying data solutions within the Azure environment, ensuring optimised performance and scalability
  • Demonstrated experience with data modelling in Power BI or MS Analysis Services
  • Demonstrated experience in Microsoft integration technologies such as Logic Apps and Power Apps 
  • Experience with other Microsoft information management technologies such as SharePoint, Purview, etc. 
  • Excellent oral communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to interpret qualitative and quantitative data
  • A background working in Microsoft and Microsoft-compatible data warehousing applications such as MS Fabric and DBT is a plus
  • Proficiency in Copilot Studio and Azure AI Foundry is a plus 
  • Experience in Salesforce is a plus 
  • Tertiary qualifications related to Information Technology, or a related discipline highly regarded.
