Short Description
What will you be doing…
The Systems Engineer plays a critical role in delivering full, end-to-end solutions to our customers by bridging the gap between System Architecture, Product Development Engineering (PDE), and other cross-functional teams within the DDN Business Unit. This role owns the system-level definition, integration, and execution of high-speed interconnect solutions, ensuring they meet customer performance, manufacturability, and reliability requirements.
As a central technical point of coordination, the Systems Engineer ensures that all components—mechanical, electrical, signal/power integrity (SI/PI), thermal, and manufacturing—align to form a cohesive, customer-ready system. This is a customer-impacting, highly collaborative role, requiring close alignment with sales, program management, and operations teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the complete technical definition and delivery of high-speed interconnect systems for customer platforms—from requirements gathering to production ramp.
- Serve as the technical integrator across diverse engineering organizations such as System Architecture, PDE, SI/PI, Thermal, and Manufacturing Process Development Engineering (MPDE) to deliver complete solutions.
- Translate architectural intent into system-level requirements and execution plans; coordinate subsystem designs to ensure technical coherence.
- Engage with customers and sales/PM teams to interpret the Voice of Customer (VOC), define use cases, and ensure the solution aligns with application and performance expectations. Be the customer’s primary technical interface and support, providing timely insights and technical support
- Facilitate the customer and their manufacturing partner’s ability to integrate our solutions into their application—this may require travel to be on-site with customers and their partners.
- Develop and manage interface definitions, system BOMs, and requirement traceability. Maintain system-level specifications and verification plans.
- Collaborate with SI/PI, thermal, and mechanical teams to review and validate performance models and prototype outcomes.
- Lead system-level feasibility assessments and drive design trade studies to balance performance, cost, and manufacturability.
- Stay engaged from concept through New Product Introduction (NPI), supporting root cause analysis, change control (ECN/PCN), and DFx practices.
What your background should look like:
- Bachelor’s degree in Systems, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering (Master’s degree preferred)
- Generally requires 12 years of relevant work experience
- Experienced in cross-disciplinary product development (preferably in interconnects, datacenter systems, or high-speed electronics)
- Proven ability to lead system integration across mechanical, electrical, and signal integrity domains
- Experience managing customer requirements and delivering full system solutions
- Familiarity with simulation tools (ANSYS, HFSS, SI/PI analysis), CAD tools (Creo, SolidWorks), and tolerance analysis
- Strong communication and leadership skills; ability to navigate complex, matrixed organizations
- Comfortable working in a global environment and collaborating across geographies and disciplines
- Familiarity with computing, networking, AI / ML, and storage architectures.
- Ability to clearly communicate technical concepts to diverse audiences
- Effectively able to build relationships with external customers and industry leaders as well as internally across all levels, disciplines, and geographies
- Ability to spend 25%-30% of your time traveling
