MidAmerican Energy Company is seeking students pursuing a bachelor's degree or higher in data analytics, computer science, management information systems, meteorology, or related field of study, graduating later than August 2025. Data Science Interns will gain understanding of key drivers of business and engage with analytics framework/tools to create value from data. The position is temporary, nonexempt, and full-time/hourly through the summer.

Interns will have the opportunity to participate in the annual three-day summer intern event in Des Moines, Iowa where they will tour state-of-the-art facilities, network with leadership, and gain a broader understanding of MidAmerican Energy Company. Other panels, lunch and learns, and events will be happening throughout the summer to give our interns the best experience.
Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Identify partner teams' key issues, interim solutions, and help solve business problems using meteorological insights and expertise.
- Collaborate with team members to design and develop advanced analytics projects.
- Develop data visualizations and dashboards using Power BI to present analytical model results as well as descriptive analytics.
- Effectively communicate and present results and project outcomes.
- Perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.
Primary Deliverables
- Work with procurement and vendors (preferred vendor is Western Weather Group) to install weather stations at all areas of elevated fire risk for MidAmerican that do not have adequate RAWS coverage. Use Synoptic Data Viewer to pull in weather data.
- Build storage site/Power BI Dashboard for Red Flag Warning data and Fire data.
- Review current security camera company’s AI capabilities and determine locations for future camera installations based on WUI and wildfire risk.
- Review and assess climate reports from NREL on flooding risk and Argonne National Laboratories on wildfire risk.

Qualifications
- Must be a college student, sophomore or higher standing, currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree or higher program in data analytics, computer science, management information systems, meteorology, or related field of study.
- Must be available May 2025 - August 2025.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and the Windows operating environment.
