Our mission at Oura is to empower every person to own their inner potential. Our award-winning products help our global community gain a deeper knowledge of their readiness, activity, and sleep quality by using their Oura Ring and its connected app. We've helped 2.5 million people understand and improve their health by providing daily insights and practical steps to inspire healthy lifestyles.

Empowering the world starts with living our values and empowering our team. As a quickly growing company focused on helping people live healthier and happier lives, we ensure that our team members have what they need to do their best work — both in and out of the office.

We’re seeking a Staff Machine Learning Data Scientist to play a key role in advancing our physiological feature pipeline and pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with wearable health data. This role is ideal for an experienced ML expert who excels in multimodal time-series modeling, thrives in ambiguous problem spaces, and brings a balance of hands-on technical depth and strategic thinking.

Location: Finland, we have offices in Helsinki and Oulu

What You will do:

  • Lead the development of advanced ML models for fusing multimodal time-series data (e.g., PPG, motion, temperature) into meaningful health features
  • Design robust, generalizable algorithms for complex physiological signals across diverse populations
  • Guide experimentation strategy, from data acquisition to deployment, across both research and product contexts
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including sensor R&D, firmware, and product, to align on feature goals and implementation feasibility
  • Act as a technical mentor to other data scientists, elevating best practices in model development, evaluation, and interpretability
  • Drive architectural decisions for data pipelines and infrastructure that support scalable and reliable model deployment
  • Contribute to long-term science strategy, helping shape the vision for physiological sensing at Oura

We would love to have you on our team if you:

  • 7+ years of experience in machine learning and data science, with a strong focus on sequential modeling, sensor fusion, and real-world time-series data
  • Expertise in deep learning architectures (e.g., Transformers, RNNs, TCNs), probabilistic modeling, and representation learning
  • Deep proficiency in Python, along with tools like PyTorch and TensorFlow
  • A track record of shipping ML-based features or products at scale, preferably in health tech or wearable computing
  • Experience with AWS and scalable data systems, including SQL databases
  • A collaborative, low-ego approach—you’re equally comfortable setting direction as you are diving deep into code
  • An advanced degree (PhD or Master’s) in computer science, machine learning, biomedical engineering, applied math, or related field—or equivalent industry experience
