A Day in the LifeMedtronic’s Acute Care & Monitoring (ACM) business is looking for a Systems Integration Engineer II to be part of a high-performing team in the definition, design and development of oximetry monitoring device systems. In this role, you will leverage both your technical breadth and business acumen to accelerate the design and development of next generation medical devices. The work you do will impact patients globally and help support Medtronic’s mission of alleviating pain, restoring health, and extending life for millions.

This engineering position requires strong technical and leadership skills to support the design and development of innovative, new products within the Oximetry & Wearables Group. The Systems Integration Engineer II will apply knowledge of systems engineering and experience in working on complex multidisciplinary problems. They will work alongside the team’s Systems Engineers on projects from early phase development to market release to generate a phased test strategy to provide full-coverage testing of sub-system interfaces.

Systems Engineering activities typically involve trade-offs between risks, benefits, and performance. Systems Engineering activities are performed within the constraints of a complex regulatory environment, in partnership with development (software, firmware, hardware, mechanical engineering), research, clinical, regulatory, product planning, and marketing groups.

This position will support the Oximetry & Wearables technologies which often involve complex electronic circuits, wired communication, adhesives and a mix of consumer and medical technologies.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Perform system testing activities and coordinate testing efforts with other team members

  • Define iterative test integration strategy and protocols. Manage integration progress throughout product lifecycle.

  • Support definition of interface requirements between systems (e.g. sw, hw, firmware, mechanical)

  • Partner with systems engineers to ensure customer needs, use cases and user workflows are translated into specific, well-written, testable requirements, design features and associated integration test cases.

  • Support sub-system engineers in the design of sub-system level tests to ensure robustness and applicability to system requirements.

  • Collaborate with Human Factors and Clinical Engineers to test product use cases like real world testing or testing in animal models.

  • Perform/participate in Risk Analysis activities, such as FMEA, and Hazard Analysis activities for systems, features, and implementations with the intent to eliminate or mitigate the risks in the identified scenarios.

  • Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, evaluates alternatives including cost and risk, supportability and analyses for total systems.

  • Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal.

  • Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints.

  • Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.

Required Knowledge and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering with 2+ years of systems/product development experience

OR

  • An advanced degree in engineering with 0+ years of systems/product development experience

Nice to Have

  • Local to CO

  • Understanding and experience in design, development, and testing of electro-mechanical medical devices

  • Understanding and experience with developing Requirements, Test Methods/Protocols and Test Equipment for embedded medical devices

  • Working knowledge of systems engineering principles, requirements management, project management, and medical device regulation

  • Experience gathering user and/or clinician feedback on product features and impact to user workflow

  • Experience with Design for Six Sigma or related product development processes

  • Experience using Minitab, Matlab, Python, or R for statistics and data analysis

  • Working knowledge of how to read electrical schematics and/or mechanical drawings

  • Basic knowledge of software development and computer programming

  • Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships at all levels of the organization, cross-functionally, and with key people external to the organization

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$83,200.00 - $124,800.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).

Regular employees are those who are not temporary, such as interns.  Temporary employees are eligible for paid sick time, as required under applicable state law, and the Employee Stock Purchase Plan. Please note some of the above benefits may not apply to workers in Puerto Rico.
