This Full-Time Research Assistant 2 position is based in Prof. Tal Arbel's research lab in the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
This position provides research, technical, and administrative support for Professor Arbel’s lab in the context of a grant focused on developing multi-modal causal deep learning models to predict future disability progression and treatment response in Multiple Sclerosis.
The Research Assistant must hold at least a Master’s degree in engineering or computer science. Given the interdisciplinary scope of the project, a strong foundation in deep learning is essential, along with hands-on experience applying deep learning techniques to medical image analysis. Ideally, the candidate will also have experience working with large-scale datasets and possess solid software engineering skills.
Job Responsibilities include:
• Data Acquisition & Management:
o Identify, apply for, and download medical imaging datasets aligned with research objectives.
o Securely transfer sensitive medical data to the lab and manage data-related tasks, including enforcing storage policies, monitoring, and backups.
• Medical Imaging Processing & Analysis:
o Perform advanced temporal preprocessing of 3D brain MRI data, including brain extraction, rigid registration to a common template, longitudinal registration, co-registration of sequences, denoising, B1 and N4 non-uniformity correction, and intensity scaling.
o Adapt and apply advanced segmentation tools for research purposes.
• Software Development & Pipeline Optimization:
o Develop, deploy, and maintain software pipelines and tools for medical image analysis, including unified pipelines for accessing, processing, and optimizing patient datasets.
o Enhance research tools with cloud functionality and visualization capabilities.
o Maximize the use of hardware resources, including local hardware, cloud platforms (VMs, Cloud Buckets) and compute clusters (SLURM).
• Research Support & Collaboration:
o Reproduce existing deep learning research projects and assist in onboarding new students.
o Establish baseline deep learning models for ongoing research projects and assist with model validation.
o Create basic documentation and tutorials to support lab operations and research initiatives.
• Administrative & Technical Support:
o Provide general administrative support, including scheduling, email monitoring, website updates, lab organization, and conference registration.
o Assist with basic Linux system administration tasks, such as OS updates and network configuration.
Qualification:
- Master’s degree in engineering or computer science
- Coding in python, medical imaging models, AI foundation models
- 2-4 years experience in similar field
- strong foundation in deep learning is essential
- Strong analytic and communication skills
- experience working with large-scale datasets
