Job Title

Internship: Exploring the use of AI Tools

Job Description

Background:
Our department is responsible for developing and maintaining complex baggage handling systems that require deep domain knowledge. Daily work involves not only understanding and troubleshooting these systems, but also creating and adjusting detailed configurations based on functional requirements and operational constraints.

We believe that AI can play a significant role in improving how we manage and share knowledge, solve issues, and even support the configuration process itself. Rather than building AI from scratch, this internship will focus on evaluating existing tools to see how they can help us work smarter and more efficiently.

Assignment Objective:
Investigate how existing AI tools can assist our team in:

  • Sharing and accessing domain knowledge more effectively
  • Analyzing and understanding technical issues
  • Supporting the creation, validation, or improvement of system configurations

Activities:

  • Research and evaluate AI tools (e.g., copilot, knowledge bases, config validators, natural language interfaces)
  • Build one or more small-scale demos using representative configuration files and documentation
  • Conduct user testing or feedback sessions with engineers to evaluate usability and value
  • Summarize insights, tool comparisons, and next steps in a clear and actionable format

Skills/Interests:

  • Interest in AI and intelligent systems
  • Curiosity about how complex systems are built and maintained
  • Comfortable working with structured and unstructured data (e.g., config files, documents)
  • Basic knowledge of Python or scripting is helpful
  • Willingness to explore and experiment with modern AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Copilot, Notion AI, etc.)

Department:

The IT Solutions Project Engineering team operates globally to deliver High Level Control (HLC) software solutions for airport baggage handling systems within Vanderlande. Our software ensures the smart routing, tracking, and control of baggage flows, tailored to each airport’s specific operational needs. We work closely with customers and internal teams to configure, implement, and optimize these vital systems.
