This is a career-defining opportunity to serve as the technical anchor of Moderna’s cloud-native enterprise data platform. As Tech Lead / Solution Architect, you’ll take charge of driving the architectural strategy, design, and hands-on leadership for self-service data platform capabilities across more than 16 business domains. Your work will directly impact the scalability, accessibility, and governance of Moderna’s data infrastructure—empowering cross-functional teams to deliver life-changing mRNA solutions faster and more effectively.
You will work at the intersection of platform engineering, enterprise architecture, and business teams—shaping a data platform that fuels innovation, ensures security and compliance, and continuously evolves to meet emerging enterprise needs. This role is an individual contributor position, based in Warsaw, Poland.
What You’ll Do:
Your key responsibilities will be:
Architecting and leading the implementation of self-service platform capabilities across ingestion, processing, storage, and consumption layers.
Driving the adoption of modern data stack technologies and architecture patterns including data mesh and lakehouse.
Partnering with data scientists, analysts, engineers, and product managers to translate business needs into scalable technical solutions.
Setting and enforcing enterprise-wide standards for access control, observability, data quality, and cataloging.
Defining reusable architectural patterns and owning comprehensive documentation of platform architecture.
Your responsibilities will also include:
Providing hands-on technical mentorship to software engineers, platform developers, and data engineers.
Collaborating with security, enterprise architecture, and infrastructure teams to ensure alignment with broader policies and technical standards.
Evaluating emerging data technologies to enhance platform scalability, performance, and cost efficiency.
Ensuring compliance with enterprise data privacy and regulatory requirements, including GxP.
Championing best practices in automation, DevOps, and engineering excellence throughout the data platform lifecycle.

As a systems thinker and architectural leader, you'll be expected to take full ownership of solutions from strategy to execution, advocating for reusability, performance, and enterprise value at every stage.
What You’ll Need (Basic Qualification):
Over 8 years of experience in software engineering, with a strong focus on designing and implementing scalable data architectures. Proven expertise in architecting end-to-end data solutions on AWS
Background in architecting and leading self-service data platform capabilities
Deep understanding of Data Mesh, data lakehouse architecture
Hands-on experience with data services such as AWS Glue, Amazon Redshift, as well as proficiency in Python, SQL, and dbt
Hands-on experience with CI/CD, infrastructure as code, and modern DevOps practices
Experience leading teams or mentoring junior engineers.
Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence both technical and non-technical stakeholders
What You’ll Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualification):
Experience with data governance frameworks, lineage, cataloging, and metadata management
Familiarity with data privacy, compliance, and security best practices.
Prior experience working in a highly collaborative environment with product, data science, and analytics teams.
What a Day Looks Like:
Start the day with a cross-functional stand-up to sync with engineers, product managers.
Review architectural proposals, provide technical guidance to engineers, and troubleshoot design issues.
Collaborate with stakeholders on new data initiatives—reviewing use cases, proposing scalable design patterns, and aligning on implementation plans.
Participate in code reviews, data model reviews, and peer design discussions to ensure alignment with platform strategy.
Draft and review architectural diagrams and design documents, platform roadmaps, and reusable design artifacts.
Meet with enterprise security or governance teams to ensure compliance and data integrity across domains.
Evaluate or implement tools like monitoring frameworks, observability, or data quality checks.
Engage in platform optimization efforts (performance tuning, cost management, etc.)
Stay updated with the latest in the data ecosystem and assess feasibility of new tools or approaches.
