In our central research group for Computational Biology, we develop innovative solutions to address global challenges in biotechnology, agriculture, and sustainability. Our diverse team combines expertise in Systems Biology, Bioinformatics, Protein Engineering, to create cutting-edge solutions across multiple business units.

 

We are seeking an outcome-driven Systems Biologist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding and proven track record in at least one of the following areas: computational retrobiosynthesis/pathway modeling, bioprocess modeling and/or multi-omics data analysis and integration.

 

  • As a scientist specializing in biological data analysis, your primary responsibility will be to develop and apply methods for modeling and describing biological systems, addressing diverse questions across projects in industrial biotechnology, toxicology, biodegradation, and agriculture.
  • You will draw meaningful and actionable insights from your analyses and efficiently communicate these results to project partners.
  • Furthermore, you will collaborate closely with diverse teams within BASF, providing expert guidance on experimental planning, data collection, and processing/analysis and proactively identify opportunities as well as propose effective solutions.
  • You will develop and enable scientists to utilize computational tools through apps and dashboards.
  • Last but not least, you will stay abreast of latest advancements in systems biology including AI, graph methodologies, and optimization techniques, and their applications for biological systems.

WHAT YOU OFFER

  • PhD in Systems Biology, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics or a related field
  • profound understanding and proven track record in at least one of the following areas: computational retrobiosynthesis/pathway modeling, bioprocess modeling and/or multi-omics data analysis and integration
  • familiarity with statistical data analysis and relevant computational tools and libraries in Python and/or R
  • ideally experience with more advanced data science methods (e.g. CNNs, Transformers) as well as the relevant technical tools (e.g. TensorFlow, PyTorch)
  • an entrepreneurial attitude with the ability to identify innovation opportunities
  • excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience in conveying complex scientific concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary research environment
