Role Overview
We’re looking for a Staff Data Governance Architect to join our team and help scale and mature our data governance function. As part of a growing team led by our Data Governance Lead, you’ll play a key role in designing and operationalizing the policies, frameworks, and infrastructure that ensure our data is secure, trustworthy, and aligned with both business and regulatory needs.
In this role, you’ll work across teams to shape how data is modeled, managed, and governed—supporting product development, analytics, compliance, and decision-making. You’ll contribute to building scalable data governance policies & processes, implement access control strategies, and partner with stakeholders across Engineering, Product, Operations, and Risk and Compliance.
This role is both strategic and hands-on, giving you the chance to drive meaningful impact across teams as we scale—and play a key part in building a data-first culture from the ground up.
This is an onsite position in one of our hub locations (Mountain View CA or McLean VA)
Responsibilities
- Analyze existing data structures and flows to identify inefficiencies, and provide feedback on the design of new databases that support product development and business goals.
- Advise on best practices for reference data management, database normalization, modeling, and scalable data architecture.
- Research, design, and implement policies, processes, and best practices in data governance and data management
- Design and implement access control models for data warehouses, ensuring secure and compliant data access.
- Collaborate with business and IT stakeholders to understand and capture data requirements, ensuring critical data meets user and system needs.
- Manage relationships with data governance solution vendors and key internal stakeholders.
- Partner with Risk and Compliance teams to ensure governance activities align with regulatory requirements.
- Advocate for the value of strong data practices and lead change management initiatives that support governance adoption.
- Regularly assess the data governance processes, tools, and policies and recommend improvements.
Basic Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in data governance, data architecture, or data management roles, preferably in a high-growth or startup environment.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with SQL and working knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., Python).
- 3+ years of experience with modern data stack tools, including dbt, Airbyte, Airflow, and visualization platforms like Tableau or Looker.
- 3+ years experience with data warehousing technologies (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift) including a focus on access control, data lineage, and governance.
- 3+ years of experience with complex data modeling and designing relational and graph database structures.
- 2+ years experience with Data Governance tools, including Data Catalog technologies and Data Quality tools.
- 2+ years experience in ingesting, processing, and visualizing various data types – structured/relational and unstructured.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience with advanced implementations of Postgres
- Familiar with or directly experienced in Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
- Hands-on experience developing and implementing data governance frameworks, including data quality, metadata management, and data cataloging
- Experience integrating data governance into CI/CD pipelines and data workflows is a plus.
- Familiar with access control, data security, and compliance requirements (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, other state and country specific data privacy laws)
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
- Superb time management, prioritization of tasks, and ability to meet deadlines with little supervision.

The annual base salary listed does not include a company bonus, incentive for sales roles, equity and benefits which will be determined based on experience, skills, education, relevant training, geographic location and role.
