Data Science Intern (Fall 2025)

About the role
Are you passionate about technology and would love to join our highly skilled global team? With this 4-months internship, you will have the possibility to integrate into a team of Data Scientists based in Toronto and to contribute to developing analytics products in tight collaboration with internal business experts and external clients. The internship will start on September 2nd and end on the December 31st, 2025. The position is hybrid and involves at least 3 days per week working from the Toronto Swiss Re office.
About the team
The Data Science & AI (DS & AI) department is part of the Group Data Services. The DS & AI department implements Swiss Re`s Technology Strategy and supports its business functions in generating insights and creating data driven products & solutions, be it with our internal business partners or directly with our external insurance and corporate clients.
About you
Responsibilities & Key Tasks

Support in developing impactful data science products by contributing to the end-to-end delivery, including some data engineering, machine learning modelling (including working with GenAI) and model interpretation/monitoring

Develop toolboxes and solutions that can be re-used across projects

Contribute actively to the team by joining and doing knowledge sharing session, joining the team events, support team efforts, hackathons etc.
Technical Requirements
-
Currently enrolled in a bachelor's or master's degree in a relevant technical discipline such as engineering, computer science, mathematics, statistics or physics.

Hands-on experience with Python

Strong knowledge in statistical modelling and machine learning

Knowledge in software/data engineering is a plus (e.g. code versioning, distributed computing…)

Knowledge on large language models/Generative AI is a plus
Soft skills

Open and curious, eager to learn about new technologies

Good communication skills, ability to present ideas and explain a model in non-technical terms

Fluent in English
