Performance and Capacity Engineer, Modeling & Optimization

Meta is seeking an AI and Infrastructure Investment Optimization Engineer to join a newly formed team in the Finance organization that works very closely with Product, AI and Infrastructure teams across the company. These teams are building some of the most cutting edge and transformative AI products in the world that are being rolled out to Meta’s 3 Billion+ users. Building these products and features requires tens of billions of dollars of capital each year over a sustained period of time. Managing and optimizing the deployment of this vast capital and the allocation of these resources requires a team that has technical expertise in AI and Infrastructure along with solid understanding of data science, finance and operations. This role is expected to leverage capacity / engineering subject matter expertise in AI and Infrastructure (incl. software services, server hardware, supply chain, networking and data centers) to build models & tools, conduct analyses and develop POVs on capital allocation decisions on Infrastructure as well as allocation of infrastructure resources to products and platforms.

This is unique role in the industry which will require one to understand technical aspects of how AI and Infrastructure are built, operated and used to serve users and work cross-functionally with product managers, engineers, data scientists, finance, business and operations professionals on solving some of the most important technological problems of our times and also ensure that company makes efficient investments.Performance and Capacity Engineer, Modeling & Optimization Responsibilities

• Build and maintain end-to-end models for long range planning and strategic decisions
• Build tooling and models to compute and explain Infrastructure OPEX and CAPEX costs at the company, product and resource levels
• Leverage understanding of AI and Infrastructure to develop independent point-of-view on ROI of investments in Infrastructure and allocation of Infrastructure resources to various products and software platforms
• Leverage engineering and operations expertise to help Meta maintain optimal flexible capacity across the end-to-end spectrum of Infrastructure
• Help define resource allocation policies that are reasonable and actionable from a technical, operational and financial perspective
• Work with product, engineering and data science teams to do technical, operational and business impact assessments of re-allocation of resources based on changing business needs, competitive landscape and product roadmaps
• Maintain lineage of decisions around Infrastructure investments and assumptions under which those decisions were made to drive accountability for outcomes across the company
• Build automated tools, scripts, data pipelines and models that helps make, communicate and track decisions efficiently in a scalable fashion
• Partner and collaborate effectively with product managers, engineers, data scientists, finance, business and operations professionals

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience
• 12+ years of experience in performance or software engineering
• Proficient in any programming language (C++, Python, etc.) and designing software systems and tools
• Experience working in an engineering role at a large-scale cloud provider or a large customer of a public cloud company
• Experience partnering well cross-functionally with a wide range of teams, deal with ambiguity and present technical content in an easy to understand manner to technical and non-technical teams

Preferred Qualifications

• Masters or Ph.D. in a technical field such as Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Operations Research, Data Science, etc.
• Practical experience in an engineering function responsible for resource planning, allocation and / or management at a hyperscaler / public cloud and / or a large customer of public cloud
• Experience working in an engineering role at a large-scale cloud provider or a large customer of a public cloud company
• Curiosity about the inter-relationship between business outcomes and technology investments and experience translating this curiosity to practical models for decision making
