A Day in the Life

This position is in Mounds View, MN within the CRM operating unit and requires on-site presence at least three days a week.

Medtronic Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM) AI Research group develops the next-generation technologies that revolutionize the care of millions of patients worldwide. Our products range from complex cloud-based information processing at massive scale to efficient algorithms controlling the real-time operation of implanted cardiac devices. 

We are looking for data scientists who bring fresh ideas from all areas, including artificial intelligence, computer vision, signal processing, natural language processing, information retrieval, distributed computing, UI design, and mobile applications. 

As a Senior AI/Data Science Engineer, you will work on multiple projects critical to the needs of Medtronic’s CRM operating unit. Our engineers need to be versatile, display leadership qualities, and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full-stack as we continue to push technology forward.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: 

  • Design, build, train, and test AI/ML models. 

  • Perform complex data engineering and data wrangling tasks requiring an attention-to-detail and curiosity to learn the intricacies of product data ecosystems. 

  • Develop software tools to support early feasibility research and prototype new features. 

  • Work closely with Project Managers, Research Scientists, and fellow AI/Data Science Engineers to frame problems within the business context. 

  • Analyze experimental and observational data, communicate findings, and facilitate product design decisions. 
     

 

MUST HAVE - MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Bachelor’s degree with four years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with two years of relevant experience. 
     

Nice to Have 

  • Degree focus in Computer Science, Statistics, Biomedical Engineering, or related technical field.   

  • Advanced experience with building AI architectures: Convolutions, Residuals, Recurrence, Transformers, and LLMs. 

  • Extensive knowledge of AI/ML evaluation metrics and best practices and of AI/ML libraries, such as PyTorch, Tensorflow, and Scikit-Learn. 

  • Software skills including coding expertise (Python, Javascript), web frameworks (Django, Flask), and version control systems (Azure DevOps, Github). 

  • Experience in AWS cloud computing, particularly in app deployment and scalable solutions, which include EC2, EKS, and S3. 

  • Data pipeline and data wrangling expertise across different systems, including SQL and PostgreSQL databases and frameworks such as Spark and Hadoop. 

  • Self-driven with the ability to deliver on open-ended projects with incomplete or dirty data.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$133,600.00 - $200,400.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others). 

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).

 

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to all regular employees: Incentive plans, 401(k) plan plus employer contribution and match, Short-term disability, Paid time off, Paid holidays, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, Employee Assistance Program, Non-qualified Retirement Plan Supplement (subject to IRS earning minimums), and Capital Accumulation Plan (available to Vice Presidents and above, or subject to IRS earning minimums).

 

Regular employees are those who are not temporary, such as interns.  Temporary employees are eligible for paid sick time, as required under applicable state law, and the Employee Stock Purchase Plan. Please note some of the above benefits may not apply to workers in Puerto Rico.
