What you'll do:
Reporting to the Executive Director, Business Solutions, this position is responsible for the management and optimization of the organization’s information systems, data assets, and records including the data lake, enterprise content management and GIS systems. This role involves leading a team to ensure the effective collection, storage, analysis, and dissemination of information while ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory, and industry standards. The Manager will work closely with cross-functional teams to drive initiatives aimed at improving data governance, business intelligence, and strategic decision-making capabilities.
- Provide direction and leadership to the team, developing their skills and capabilities to meet the needs of the organization through formal and informal coaching and performance management, and foster a positive, inclusive, and growth-oriented team culture.
- Allocate team resources effectively to meet business needs and support organizational change.
- Design and implement a scalable data warehouse that empowers users to self-serve their information needs, providing access to clean, structured data for reporting, analysis, and decision-making.
- Drive the effective use of business intelligence (BI) tools and data analytics to provide actionable insights for strategic decision-making.
- Oversee the evaluation, selection, implementation, and maintenance of information management systems (e.g. document management systems, content management systems, business intelligence platforms), ensuring the systems are user-friendly and optimized for business needs.
- Report on the performance and efficiency of information management systems, identifying areas for improvement.
- Design and execute strategies that align the effective management of information throughout its lifecycle with the organization's needs and objectives.
- As a key member of the Data Governance Committee, ensure that an appropriate data governance framework is defined, operated and maintained.
- Implement data quality control measures to ensure the accuracy, consistency, and security of organizational data.
- Enforce data privacy, security, retention and disposal policies in accordance with legal, regulatory, and organizational requirements.
- Oversee the integration of information across different systems, ensuring that data is accurate, consistent, and up-to-date.
- Ensure the development of standard operating procedures and best practices for information management processes within the team.
- Stay current with trends in data, information management, data governance, and technology advancements to drive continuous learning and innovation.
- Create and manage budget for data services, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and financial constraints.
- Foster strong, mutually beneficial relationships with key suppliers and vendors to drive long-term value.
- Monitor and assess vendor performance against established KPIs, SLAs, and contract terms.
- Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with key business stakeholders to understand their needs, objectives, and challenges, ensuring IT is seen as a trusted partner in achieving business success.
Qualifications:
The knowledge and skills required for this position will be acquired through either a diploma or degree in Computer Science, or related discipline with 5 years of experience in data or information management, with at least 3 years in a leadership or managerial position.
- Proven experience managing a data warehouse, data lake or data analytics platform and implementing data governance practices in complex organizations.
- Experience applying Agile methodologies and product management principles to data projects, ensuring iterative delivery and stakeholder alignment.
- Familiarity with information security principles and tools to ensure the security and privacy of organizational data.
- Expertise in document management systems (e.g., SharePoint, OpenText) and records management practices.
- Experience with ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes and integration tools for seamless data flow between systems.
- Certifications in information management, data governance, or related fields (e.g., DAMA, CDMP, PMI) are an asset.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements related to data privacy and retention (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, CCPA).
- Written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate data strategies and their business value to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Working knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma) to optimize data processes and systems.
- Organizational skills with the ability to manage deadlines, adapt to shifting priorities and appropriately manage risk.
- Self-initiating and teamwork skills, providing an environment to motivate direct reports with change initiatives, and advances a culture of innovation and teamwork.
- Effective analytical and problem-solving skills that lead to innovative solutions.
