Committed to setting standards for safety and excellence as one of the world’s leading ship classification organizations, the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) establishes the best solutions for the industries we serve, and is at the forefront...The RBI Engineer – AIM, will have the opportunity to contribute to various fixed equipment projects, including pressure vessels, piping, storage tanks, and relief devices within our Asset Integrity Management group. The primary responsibilities are risk-based inspection (RBI) implementation and reassessment, damage mechanism assessment (DMA), inspection plan development, condition monitoring location (CML) identification, inspection data management system (IDMS), mechanical integrity assessment, and fitness for service (FFS). These activities, by nature of their complexity and difficulty, require the fully competent application of knowledge in engineering analysis, ASME and API codes and standards, and applicable regulatory requirements, as well as strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and creative, innovative, and forward-looking solutions.
What You Will Do:
- Support with the development of RBI Methodology Documents, such as Management System and Technical Instructions specific to the client and regulatory requirements.
- Implement RBI programs in commercially available inspection data management systems (IDMS).
- Perform risk analysis, updating RBI inspection plans, and evergreening the RBI analysis.
- Support with the verification of RBI data quality and assumptions through quality audits.
- Participate in damage mechanism assessments/reviews and identify damage mechanisms.
- Participate/perform fixed equipment system and circuitization.
- Determine inspection and test plans for fixed equipment and piping.
- Work with a team of technicians, specialists, and engineers to perform data entry, develop corrosion loops, and create piping inspection circuits.
- Perform QA/QC of RBI project deliverables.
What You Will Need:
Education and Experience
- Completion of an engineering degree (4 years) from a University (B.S. or equivalent) in metallurgy, materials, mechanical, or chemical engineering. A master’s degree is preferable.
- Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in ASME code equipment and piping in the oil and gas, chemical, and petrochemical industries
- Certified or working to get API 580 and 571 certifications
- Experience with RBI implementation as per API 580/581.
- Experience in damage mechanism assessment and developing corrosion loops in the oil and gas industry.
- Working experience with conventional and advanced NDT applications and limitations (UT, PT, MT, RT, GWT, ToFD, PA).
- Experience utilizing RBI software systems, such as PCMS, Visions, APM, Meridium, and other inspection data management systems (IDMS)
- Experience performing fitness for service (FFS) assessment (at least Level I) as per API 579-1.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to effectively utilize both qualitative and semi-quantitative RBI analysis methodologies.
- Process knowledge of oil refineries and gas processing. In addition, chemical plant process knowledge is preferred.
- The individual must be highly motivated and a self-starter.
- This position requires good communication skills, process thinking ability, teamwork, leadership, and the ability to lead contractors and subcontractors as needed.
- Ability to obtain a working knowledge of the ABS Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental Management Systems.
It Would Be Nice If You Had
Certified API 510, 570, 653, ASNT Level II or Level III in MT, PT, RT, VT & UT is preferable.
Reporting Relationships:
The incumbent Generally reports to a Principal Engineer but may report to others depending on the specific of assignment. This position does not have any direct reports.
