Job Description:

The Director, Artificial Intelligence is a visionary and will spearhead the development of cutting-edge Artificial Intelligence (AI)solutions for our ambulatory Electronic Health Records (EHR) platform. This strategic role is integral to advancing patient care and optimizing clinical workflows through both traditional AI and generative AI innovations. As the Director you will collaborate with cross-functional teams, ensure regulatory compliance, and establish a culture of continuous improvement and responsible data stewardship.

AI Product Leadership
  • Define and drive the AI roadmap in alignment with organizational goals, focusing on both traditional AI/ML and generative AI solutions.
  • Oversee end-to-end product development cycles, from ideation and prototyping through deployment and maintenance.
 Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with clinical, technical, and business stakeholders to ensure AI solutions meet user needs, regulatory standards, and market demands.
  • Collaborate with Product Management, Engineering, and Data Science teams to translate clinical workflows and patient care requirements into AI-driven solutions.
 Team Management & Development
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing AI team comprised of data scientists, machine learning engineers, and software developers.
  • Foster a collaborative environment, encouraging knowledge sharing, innovation, and continuous learning.
 Regulatory & Compliance Oversight
  • Ensure all AI initiatives adhere to healthcare regulations (e.g., HIPAA) and other data governance standards.
  • Oversee compliance with emerging standards for AI ethical use, bias mitigation, and patient data protection.
 Data Security & Patient Privacy
  • Maintain the highest standards of security and privacy in handling patient data.
  • Implement best practices for data governance, anonymization, and secure data pipelines.
 Performance Monitoring & Reporting
  • Establish KPIs to measure AI solutions’ impact on patient outcomes, clinical workflow efficiency, and overall ROI.
  • Provide regular updates to executive leadership, highlighting successes, challenges, and recommended improvements.
 Innovation & Thought Leadership
  • Stay abreast of the latest AI trends and technologies, particularly in deep learning, NLP, and generative AI models.
  • Champion a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and ethical considerations for AI within the organization.

Perform other duties that support the overall objective of the position.

Education Required:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field (PhD preferred).
  • Or, any combination of education and experience which would provide the required qualifications for the position.

Experience Required:

  • 10+ years of experience leading AI/ML initiatives, with at least 5 years in a leadership or director-level role.
  • Demonstrated success in deployment of traditional and generative AI solutions.
  • Proven track record of managing complex, large-scale AI projects in the healthcare domain.
  • Significant experience working with healthcare data, particularly in ambulatory care settings.

License/Certification Required:

  • Advanced certifications or specialized courses in AI, machine learning, or data analytics are a plus.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of: Familiarity with EHR systems, interoperability standards (e.g., FHIR), and clinical workflows. Deep understanding of machine learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch) and data analytics tools (e.g., Spark, Hadoop). Expertise in NLP, deep learning architectures, and generative AI models (e.g., large language models). Strong knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and containerization/orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Healthcare Regulations: Thorough understanding of HIPAA, FDA guidelines, and other relevant regulatory frameworks. Ambulatory Care: Familiarity with outpatient clinical settings, workflows, and the unique challenges associated with ambulatory EHR solutions. Market Insights: Knowledge of competitive AI landscape in healthcare and the ability to position the company’s AI products for maximum impact.
  • Skill in: Strategic Thinking: Ability to align AI initiatives with organizational goals and industry trends. Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to present complex AI concepts to diverse audiences. Leadership & Team Management: Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, mentor talent, and drive a culture of high performance.
  • Ability to: Innovation Strategy: Define and implement a strategic vision for AI-driven solutions that transform patient care and operational efficiency. Encourage a mindset of experimentation, rapid prototyping, and continuous feedback to refine AI product offerings. 
  • Culture of Continuous Improvement: Foster an environment that prioritizes quality, agility, and adaptability, incorporating lessons learned from projects into future initiatives. Advocate for responsible AI, ensuring equitable and unbiased outcomes in patient care.
  • Ethical Considerations: Remain vigilant about emerging AI ethics discussions, including patient consent, bias, and transparency.  Champion responsible data use, reflecting the organization’s commitment to patient-centric care.
