About the role

The Manager of Data Engineering plays a critical leadership role in building and scaling the Snappi’s cloud-native data infrastructure. Responsible for managing a team of data engineers, this role ensures the design, development, and maintenance of robust data pipelines, lakehouses, and real-time data platforms that power business intelligence, analytics, and AI/ML initiatives. Key responsibilities include leading end-to-end data architecture design, optimizing data flow and storage in cloud environments (e.g., AWS, GCP, or Azure), ensuring data governance and compliance, and enabling cross-functional teams with clean, secure, and reliable data. The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise in cloud data platforms with proven experience managing high-performing teams in agile, fast-paced environments. This is not just a job - it’s an opportunity to contribute to the creation of a neobank from its very foundation.

Requirements

What you ’ll be doing

Team Leadership & Development:

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of 6–12 data engineers.
  • Define roles, hire new talent, and establish a high-trust, agile engineering culture.
  • Drive technical onboarding, peer mentoring, and performance management.

Architecture & Platform Engineering:

  • Own the evolution of the data lakehouse platform using Databricks, Delta Lake, and cloud-native storage (S3/GCS/ADLS).
  • Oversee the design of scalable data pipelines (ETL/ELT/streaming) using Spark (PySpark/Scala) and Delta Live Tables.
  • Implement best practices for modular, reusable code, schema evolution, and test-driven development.

Operational Excellence:

  • Ensure pipelines and infrastructure meet SLAs, are auto-healing, observable, and cost-optimized.
  • Lead cloud cost management initiatives with FinOps and platform teams.
  • Define and monitor production alerting, monitoring, and logging frameworks using tools like Datadog, Prometheus, or native cloud solutions.

Governance, Security & Compliance:

  • Enforce data governance policies across ingestion, transformation, and access layers.
  • Collaborate with InfoSec to ensure data access controls, encryption, audit logs, and GDPR-compliant data processing.
  • Support regulatory reporting, audits, and internal control reviews.

Cross-functional Collaboration:

  • Work with finance, risk, product, and technology teams to define and deliver data products and dashboards.
  • Partner with software and ML engineering to integrate real-time features and streaming pipelines.

Innovation & Strategy:

  • Evaluate and integrate emerging tools and frameworks for orchestration (e.g., Airflow, dbt, Dagster), lineage, and cataloging.
  • Foster a culture of experimentation and continuous improvement across the data engineering function.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in data engineering; minimum 2–3 years in a managerial or lead role.
  • Expert in Databricks, Apache Spark, Delta Lake, and lakehouse paradigms.
  • Strong knowledge of cloud data architecture and services (AWS/GCP/Azure).
  • Skilled in SQL, Python, and scripting for data pipeline automation.
  • Experience in managing CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code (Terraform, GitOps).
  • Familiarity with data modeling, data quality frameworks, and event-driven systems (Kafka/PubSub/Kinesis).
  • Understanding of banking data domains (e.g., transactions, KYC, risk, customer 360) is a plus.
  • Prior experience in regulated environments (FCA, GDPR, PSD2, PCI-DSS) is preferred.
  • Exceptional communication, stakeholder engagement, and project management skills.
