Senior Missile Support Equipment Software Lead Engineer

The Boeing Company is currently seeking a Software Engineer to join the precision engagement support equipment software team located in Saint Charles, MO. This position will focus on supporting the Boeing Global Services (BGS) business organization.


The precision engagement support equipment software team Senior Software Lead Engineer will lead software efforts for the Automated Test Equipment (ATE) used primarily to test our missile products in the factory and in the field.

The selected engineer will work with a multi-disciplined engineering team to identify software requirements, design, implement, test, and deploy software on the ATE.  An electrical background is essential for understanding how to control the ATE equipment (lab equipment for analog and digital source and measurement, communications, power, and hardware simulation) and translate the requirements of testing, typically electrical and communications systems of the missile with the ATE, into software requirements.

The role also includes developing software verification plans and test procedures, executing the test procedures and documenting test results to ensure software system requirements are met. Provides technical leadership for software projects. Leads team adoption of Enterprise Software design practices, processes, tools, DevSecOps environment, and metrics. Plans, executes and documents software research and development projects. Serves as a subject matter expert for software domains, system-specific issues, processes, and regulations. Tracks and evaluates software team performance to ensure product and process conformance to project plans and industry standards. Works under minimal direction.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite in St. Charles, MO.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with multi-disciplined engineers to understand ATE system requirements; Provide software requirements, design, implementation, test, and maintenance guidance to a team of software engineers working across multiple delivery streams

  • Participate in development, test, troubleshooting, and release selloff activities as needed to ensure timely software deliveries

  • Develop and oversee implementation of technical roadmaps for maturing product capability and software commonality and coordinating with other ATE software teams on common architectures while maintaining support for existing deployed hardware and software baselines

  • Provide mentorship and support development of less experienced engineers to build a robust and knowledgeable team

  • Support software engineering proposal activities for both current and emerging potential customers

  • Support Technical Design Review (TDR) and other peer review activities for other software engineers and adjacent systems engineering activities

  • Serve as a subject matter expert on one or more aspects of the ATE software products

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):

  • Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance Post Start
  • 5+ years’ experience with full life-cycle Software development, modeling, simulation, testing, and/or analysis using C, C++, C#, Python, or Linux
  • 3+ years’ experience with leading teams in software development activities

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in computer science, engineering (such as computer engineering, electrical engineering), engineering technology with a strong software engineering background, chemistry, physics, mathematics, or data science
  • 3+ years’ experience working with electrical engineering concepts and reading/interpreting schematics
  • Leadership experience in Agile methodologies, prior scrum master experience preferred
  • Experience with NI tools and components
  • Familiarity with development tools, such as Visual Studio, Git, and Jira
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues
