As Scientific Lead for CRM (Cardio-Renal-Metabolic), you will be part of the Science Delivery team reporting to the Head of Science Delivery. In this role, you will be the key scientific liaison, bridging the gap between analytics teams across the Research, Development and Commercial continuum. Your role is crucial as a bridge between these diverse stakeholder groups that facilitates the creation and progress of transformative projects involving multimodal data that will benefit multiple groups across Novartis.
As a leader within data42, you will be required to contribute to the re-building of the data42 team by being an enthusiastic, cooperative and collaborative team player as well as a mentor to junior members. data42 functions in the spirit of a start-up, and the scientific lead is required to be adaptable in balancing the strategic and detail-oriented perspectives needed to move a project forward.

Job Description
As the CRM Scientific Lead (Cardio-Renal-Metabolic), you will be part of our Data42 Data Science function. You define, lead and execute projects that use our multimodal data to answer key scientific questions that the data42 platform is uniquely placed to solve. Ideally you have prior experience with NGS and –omics data. You will collaborate with Scientists, Clinicians, Data Scientists in the Cardiovascular, Renal and Metabolism disease area and with our colleagues in the AICS (AI and Computer Science) team. You will lead a small team of data scientists in this hands-on role. Together with the Data42 engineering team you will deliver innovative projects with a high impact on our pipeline.
Purpose of the role
Define, lead and execute Data42 CRM projects by using the totality of our data
Develop cutting-edge AI models
Data42 point of contact for CRM project teams, Translational Data Science Clusters in Biomedical Research and beyond
Coach and mentor BR Data Scientists in the use of the Data42 platform
Define the CRM Data42 data strategy
Guide the Data42 platform development
Keep updated on the latest developments in the field of AI and Generative AI that could be applicable in CRM.
What you’ll bring to the role:
7-10 years of experience in biomedical research/drug discovery and development
- Education: PhD in Computer Science, Physics, Statistics or related quantitative field with proven track/record in ML/AI
- Understanding of disease biology preferred
Solid scientific research background, demonstrated ability to ask and answer critical questions using AI/ML
Track record of leading projects or teams at a strategic level involving multiple stakeholder groups or research initiatives
Track record of rapidly upskilling in new subject areas to reach a high level of competence. Demonstrated a strong willingness to learn and step out of the comfort zone
Preferred Technical Skills
Familiar with data standards e.g. CDISC SDTM, ADaM
Machine Learning & Data Science: Supervised and unsupervised learning (Gaussian Mixture Models, DBSCAN, Random Forest, SVM), Deep learning (CNNs, RNNs, Transformers), Feature engineering, Dimensionality reduction (PCA, t-SNE,UMAP), Anomaly detection, A/B testing
Big Data & Analytics: Time series analysis, High-dimensional data processing, Statistical modeling, Data visualization, Cloud computing (AWS)
Programming & Tools: Python (NumPy, Pandas, Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch), SQL, MATLAB, Spark, Git, Docker
Data Engineering: Data wrangling, SQL, model deployment and optimization
Novartis Compensation and Benefit Summary: The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $166,300 and $297,700 per year; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/25 through 12/31/25, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period. Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
