About the role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Data Engineering Manager to lead our expanding Data Intelligence Platform team. In this pivotal leadership role, you will be responsible for execution, and delivery of our data engineering initiatives, following the strategic direction . You will manage a team of talented Data Engineers and Technical Leads, ensuring the successful architecture, construction, and optimization of our data pipelines and overall data architecture. Your understanding of business needs and ability to translate them into effective technical strategies will be crucial, as will your focus on guiding the team to deliver high-quality solutions from inception to completion.
As an ideal candidate, you possess a strong technical foundation in data engineering, coupled with proven leadership and management experience. You have a deep understanding of building robust data pipelines, optimizing data systems, and fostering a "code-first" environment. You are adept at leading and mentoring technical teams, driving collaboration, and ensuring the delivery of scalable and reliable data solutions.
You should be a strategic thinker with the ability to navigate complex data requirements across diverse teams, systems, and products. What you'll do:
- Provide strategic leadership and direction for the Data Engineering team, aligning with overall business objectives.
- Manage, mentor, and develop a team of Data Engineers and Technical Leads, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.
- Oversee the design, development, and implementation of scalable and efficient data pipelines and data architecture.
- Ensure the team understands business demands and translates them into efficient technical solutions.
- Facilitate the end-to-end execution of data engineering projects, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery.
- Oversee the optimization of existing data pipelines and data flow for performance and reliability.
- Drive the development and implementation of data collection strategies across various sources.
- Foster strong collaboration with cross-functional teams to understand their data needs and ensure the team delivers effective solutions.
- Guide the building of data transformations, data structures, metadata, dependency, and workload management.
- Champion and enforce data quality and data governance processes within the team.
- Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements across the data engineering function: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc.
- Oversee the troubleshooting and resolution of data-related issues.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest data engineering technologies and best practices, and drive their adoption within the team.
- Contribute to the strategic design and evolution of our data warehouse and data lake architecture.
- Facilitate technical discussions and decision-making within the team.
- Manage team resources, budget, and project timelines effectively.
- Report on the progress and performance of the data engineering team and initiatives to stakeholders.
What you'll need:
- University degree in courses related to computing such as Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, and Systems Analysis and Development.
- Proven experience as a Data Engineer, with significant experience in technical leadership and team management.
- Strong proficiency in programming languages relevant to data engineering (Python/pyspark).
- Experience with Databricks.
- Experience with data warehousing solutions (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery).
- Experience with ETL/ELT tools and frameworks.
- Solid understanding of database technologies (both SQL and NoSQL).
- Experience with cloud platforms and their data services (AWS, Azure).
- Familiarity with data pipeline and workflow management tools (Apache Airflow, Databricks Workflow).
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to think strategically.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and lead.
- A proactive and self-directed approach to work, with strong organizational and project management skills.
- A passion for building and optimizing data systems, and for developing and empowering technical teams.
