We are a B2B technology innovation leader pioneering networks that sense, think and act™.
At Nokia, we create technology that helps the world act together. We put the world’s people, machines and devices in sync to create a more sustainable, productive and accessible future.
Your career here will have a positive impact on people’s lives and will help us build the capabilities needed for a more productive, sustainable, and inclusive world.
For the past 100 years, Bell Labs has been harnessing the extraordinary imaginations of our researchers to fuel visionary breakthroughs. Our pioneering progress has expanded possibilities to solve humanity’s most pressing challenges. As Nokia's industrial research lab, we keep innovating with purpose, pursuing responsible, sustainable technologies that will have a demonstrative impact on society.
The AI Research Lab at Bell Labs invites applications for PhD positions in machine learning, mathematics, networking, modeling, and optimization. The Lab has a long tradition of excellence in research and currently consists of 80 staff members with expertise in algorithmic and computing sciences, network measurement and optimization, information theory, and machine learning. The current PhD position is open in the Machine Learning and Systems Group in the AI Research lab and will be carried out in collaboration with the Institut Polytechnique de Paris in the scope of a Cifre project.
This 3-year research project, funded by the European MSCA "TeraWireless" project, will focus on developing machine learning (ML) techniques for processing sub-terahertz (sub-THz) sensing data to enable real-time health monitoring. The student will work with cutting-edge technology, including channel sounder data, and contribute to advancements in AI-driven signal processing.
As a PhD student, you will play a key role in:
- Investigating and developing novel ML-based signal processing methods to extract vital signs from sub-THz sensing data.
- Addressing the challenge of ensuring information freshness in real-time health monitoring.
- Optimizing signal processing techniques to minimize latency and enable near-instantaneous detection of critical health conditions.
- Collaborating with international researchers from Nokia Bell Labs and universities.
During your PhD, you will:
- Gain expertise in sub-THz sensing technologies and their applications in health monitoring.
- Develop advanced skills in machine learning, signal processing, and data analysis.
- Contribute to cutting-edge research with the potential for high-impact publications and real-world applications.
- Work in a dynamic and collaborative research environment at Nokia Bell Labs.
- Have the opportunity to collaborate with international experts.
- A Master's degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related field.
- Strong background in signal processing and machine learning.
- Experience with programming languages such as Python.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Prior experience with wireless communication systems or sensing technologies.
