Job Title :- Chapter Lead - Security Engineering

Business & Team :-

The CBA technology unit delivers the best digital banking services to Commonwealth Bank customers and to do so is responsible for digital delivery, group data and analytics, technology and technology infrastructure, cyber, fraud, physical security and business resilience for all divisions across CBA. It is also dedicated to delivering the best workplace technology experience for our over 53.000 people across CBA and focused on providing the latest tools, technology, and resources to enhance the way we work together and empower our people to achieve more for our customers.

The Security Engineering team protects the group and our customers from theft, loss and risk events, through effective and proactive management of cyber security, privacy and operational risk.

The Principal Security Engineer is a technical subject matter expert driving cyber security outcomes for cyber security solutions and automation across the Group.

Position Specific Responsibilities

Manage a medium team of Engineers, and/or Engineering managers ensuring optimal goal setting, performance, career development and engagement. Advocate the embedding of a positive engineering culture. Ensure adherence to standards and technical quality. Guide complex technical problem solving.

Cyber Security protects the bank and our customers from theft, losses and risk events, through effective and proactive management of cyber security, privacy and operational risk.

Roles & Responsibilities :-

  • Build, lead and inspire an engaged team of Engineers.
  • Empower team to manage their work appropriately, respond to queries, address impediments and problem solve technical issues.
  • Leverage excellent level of technical domain knowledge relevant to Chapter Area (e.g. Software Engineering).
  • Communicate Engineering Practice standards and consistent ways of working across the domain and CBA that align to industry standards.
  • Understand the value of and enable the growth of diverse teams.
  • Role model a culture of engineering empowerment, autonomy, psychological safety and constructive challenge.
  • Facilitate proactive dialogue with senior management and key stakeholders to remove blockers and ensure clear path to execution.
  • Attract, develop and motivate engineering talent.
  • Provide effective coaching to Engineers and establishes mechanisms for peer to peer learning and mentoring.
  • Takes time to understand unique skill sets of team members, providing personalised feedback and guidance.
  • Support team to allocate time for code review, refactoring and tech debt elimination over feature delivery.

Essential Skills:

  • Experience: 18+ years of industry experience
  • Provide deep technical hands-on Experience in security engineering, with a focus on design, strategy and implementation of secure solutions.
  • Have strong understanding of security policies, standards, and reference architecture, and expertise in threat modelling, threat detection, control mapping, vulnerability analysis and control engineering risk identification.
  • Are experienced in designing and building reusable security patterns and or solutions.
  • Hold extensive experience in security implementation e.g IAM, Network and cryptography controls etc.
  • Have experience with secure by design, DevSecOps, and automation practices.
  • Are experienced in designing and implementing modern deployment initiatives such as microservices, web applications, APIs, containerisation, event driven, mobile applications and integration platforms.
  • Have a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with Australian financial industry regulations and standards, such as the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) and the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC)
  • Experience with AI/ML frameworks, libraries, and tools, such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Keras

Education Qualification :-

  • Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in Engineering in Computer Science/Information Technology
