About the Team

The Production Engineering (PE/SRE/DevOps) team is the driving force behind engineering excellence at Yahoo Sports. We design, write, and implement software and infrastructure to improve velocity, operability, reliability, and performance. The PE team ensures continuous quality and compliance of production systems. We build and maintain tools and platforms for engineer productivity and are at the forefront of infrastructure modernization initiatives, including cloud platforms and experimentation with new technologies.

About the Role

The Yahoo Sports Production Engineering team is actively seeking experienced DevOps/Cloud Infrastructure Engineers with expertise in AWS and a strong understanding of web applications. A Lot About You

We are looking for DevOps/Production Engineers (SREs) who are natural problem-solvers, comfortable diving into code and owning the reliability domain. As a key member of the PE team, you will collaborate with developers to implement operability improvements, enhance security, automate processes, and address system requirements. You will also be involved in developing tools, automation platforms, and intelligent monitoring solutions.

  • Are comfortable troubleshooting issues, participating in incident management, and being on-call.

  • Are interested in cutting-edge technologies, open-source projects, and taking products from design to production.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the production environment at a vast scale, including its associated infrastructure and tools.

  • Support the operability roadmap by implementing monitoring, automation, redundancy, capacity, and business continuity planning.

  • Work on challenging system and network problems to improve system performance and reliability.

  • Implement and maintain monitoring to provide complete transparency to application and system states, history, trends, and insights.

  • Participate in the on-call rotation, driving incident resolution, live troubleshooting, and impact mitigation.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS in Computer Science or an equivalent degree.

  • At least 5+ years of experience in DevOps/PE/SRE and Software Development roles.

  • Expertise in AWS application management, including designing and implementing scalable, reliable, and secure applications.

  • At least 5+ Years of experience in web technologies like Apache, Jetty, Tomcat, node

  • In-depth knowledge of infrastructure requirements, particularly in AWS environments, emphasizing EKS, Kubernetes (K8s), and deployment strategies across multiple zones and regions.

  • Proficient in Terraform for infrastructure as code (IaC) to automate the provisioning and management of AWS resources.

  • Intermediate to advanced coding expertise in one or more languages, including Python, Java, or Go.

  • Solid experience writing, understanding, and enhancing algorithms, data structures, scripting, and software design practices.

  • Deep understanding of UNIX/Linux system internals and tools for troubleshooting applications.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BS in Computer Science.

  • Experience designing and managing large-scale infrastructure in AWS EKS, AWS OpenSearch, multi-zone, and multi-region deployments.

  • Experience in Managing EKS, ECS, helm chart

  • Experience in working with any IAC, preferably Terraform

  • Experience building CI/CD pipelines and using Git for streamlined development and deployment processes (e.g., GitHub Actions, ArgoCD/FluxCD).

  • Familiarity with web technologies like Jetty, Tomcat, and ATS.

  • Deep understanding of UNIX/Linux system internals and tools for troubleshooting application stack dumps and networking, specifically tailored for AWS application environments.

  • Experience with system observability tools such as OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Splunk, ELK, ensuring comprehensive monitoring and insights into AWS applications.

  • Experience in MLOps is an advantage

  • Experience with large data processing and storage solutions like Flink, Storm, Spark, Hadoop Map/Reduce, Pig, Oozie, REDIS

The compensation for this position ranges from $128,250.00 - $266,875.00/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills and experience.The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions.
