About the workplace

As a Senior Full Stack Developer, you will build and maintain scalable web applications, design and manage relational and NoSQL databases, and develop ETL pipelines. You’ll work across cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or GCP to ensure systems are secure, efficient, and reliable. You write clean, maintainable code, focus on performance, data quality, and compliance, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. You will also support junior developers and contribute to system architecture and technical decisions.

This is a permanent, full-time role that will enjoy hybrid working arrangements which can be fulfilled primarily from the Vancity head office location and your Lower Mainland based home office. Periodically, you’ll be required to attend in-person activities or events.

A typical day would involve:

  • Technical Leadership: Architect and implement full stack solutions that integrate with large-scale banking systems and data platforms. Lead data-intensive application design and ensure best practices in database modeling, data access, and ETL integration.
  • Partner with data engineers and data scientists to build seamless integrations between digital apps and data platforms like Databricks. Define technical standards, enforce code quality, and promote engineering excellence.
  • Full Stack Development: Design, develop, and maintain enterprise-grade applications using both front-end and back-end technologies. Build, secure, and scale RESTful APIs, services, and microservices. Integrate with various systems: databases, APIs, cloud services, analytics platforms, and legacy systems.
  • Optimize data-heavy workflows for performance, security, and reliability. Collaborate with UX, Product, QA, DevOps, and Data teams to deliver end-to-end features.
  • Data Engineering & Integration: Develop and optimize complex SQL/T-SQL queries, stored procedures, and views for reporting and app logic.
  • Work with Databricks, Delta Lake, and Apache Spark for real-time and batch processing pipelines.
  • Build and maintain ETL/ELT workflows that feed analytics and operational systems. Model and manage relational and non-relational databases using best practices for normalization, indexing, and security. Integrate with data warehouses, data lakes, and reporting tools
  • Review/assess system capabilities and translate complex business requirements into data and technology specifications to inform the development or configuration of new data sets.
  • Leadership & Delivery: Participate in sprint planning, estimation, and solution design. Drive secure coding practices and compliance with industry regulations. Act as a liaison between development teams and business stakeholders. 'Cloud Data Services: Manage and integrate cloud-based data storage and computing solutions (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) to leverage modern cloud technologies and scalability.
  • Work closely with business stakeholders and data scientists to understand data requirements and ensure the successful integration of data-driven solutions into key business functions.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to junior data engineers and other technical team members, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment.
  • Develop clear, thorough documentation for all data engineering processes, pipelines, and systems.

You have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of full-stack development experience, ideally within financial services, banking, or other highly regulated industries.
  • Proven experience architecting and implementing enterprise-grade solutions that integrate with large-scale banking systems, data platforms, and legacy environments.
  • Familiarity with Canadian regulatory standards and best practices, such as PCI DSS, PIPEDA, and OSFI guidelines (an asset).
  • Proficiency with modern front-end frameworks (e.g., React.js, Angular, or Vue.js).
  • Expertise in back-end development with languages such as Java, .NET (C#), Node.js, or Python.
  • Experience building and securing RESTful APIs, microservices, and service-oriented architectures (SOA).
  • System integration experience with banking APIs, cloud services, analytics platforms, and core banking systems.
  • Strong focus on performance optimization, secure coding practices, and system reliability.
  • Advanced SQL/T-SQL skills: writing stored procedures, complex queries, and performance tuning.
  • Hands-on experience with Databricks, Delta Lake, Apache Spark, and real-time/batch data processing pipelines.
  • Development and optimization of ETL/ELT workflows feeding operational and analytics systems.
  • Expertise in relational (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL) and non-relational (e.g., MongoDB, DynamoDB) database management.
  • Integration experience with enterprise data warehouses, data lakes, and reporting solutions (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
  • Strong experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS), particularly cloud-native data services, security models, and deployment strategies.
  • Understanding of hybrid cloud environments and integration with on-premises banking infrastructure.
  • Ability to define and enforce technical standards, code review practices, and promote engineering best practices.
  • Active participation in Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban): sprint planning, backlog grooming, estimation, and retrospectives.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, cross-functional, and highly regulated environment.
  • Proactive, innovative mindset with a focus on continuous improvement and learning.
