Global Risk Management (GRM) follows a clear strategy focused on achieving risk-adjusted profitability and creating recurring value. This strategy is grounded in a model portfolio approach, which serves as the foundation for improved capital allocation and enhanced digitization of risk management processes.
GRM Analytics is the specialized area within Global Risk Management responsible for developing methodologies and models related to risk modeling across the BBVA Group. A key focus of the team is the analysis and integration of new data sources, as well as the implementation of advanced modeling techniques.
About the job:
Based in Madrid, we are seeking a motivated candidate eager to build a successful career in Risk Modeling. The primary objective of this role is to design, develop, and continuously enhance industry-leading credit risk models—such as scorecards, IFRS9, IRB/Economic models, and forecasting models—for Wholesale portfolios through the following responsibilities:
You will join the Wholesale Credit Risk Advanced Analytics Center of Experts (CoE) within the Global Risk Management Holding Area.
You will be part of a team responsible for developing and refining credit risk models, including rank-ordering models, Capital Models (IRB and Economic), and IFRS9 models. You will also help define internal standards aligned with industry best practices and ensure their implementation across BBVA’s global footprint.
You will lead global credit risk projects across all geographies in alignment with the GRM Analytics Strategy.
You will analyze, explore, and visualize real-world data, write code, document models, and test advanced Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence technologies.
You will collaborate with a wide range of internal departments to ensure the effective implementation of models and analytical initiatives.
You will work in a multicultural environment that supports career development in an international setting and be an active member of BBVA’s Data Science Community.
Qualifications
We are seeking graduates in Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Actuarial Science, Statistics, or Economics. If you have a strong academic background and are fluent in both English and Spanish, you may be the candidate we’re looking for!
Minimum Requirements:
● University degree (Bachelor’s or higher) in a quantitative discipline such as
Mathematics, Statistics, Science, or Engineering.
● At least 3 years of experience in the field of credit risk modeling.
● Solid hands-on experience in credit risk parameter estimation (capital and allowances,
IFRS9).
● Proven experience with regulatory projects (e.g., EBA new DoD, Basel III
implementation).
● Background in developing and/or validating IRB credit exposure methodologies.
● Proficient in advanced statistical and machine learning techniques for risk ranking models.
● Strong programming skills in languages such as SQL, Python, or R.
● A C1 level of English is required.
Highly Valued Skills and Experience:
● Experience interacting with regulatory bodies (e.g., ECB, national supervisors) on model-related topics.
● Familiarity with Data Mining and Data Modeling.
● Deep understanding of credit products and their associated risks.
● Exposure to Big Data technologies and Machine Learning or Deep Learning techniques is a plus.
