Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Strategy Lead

AstraZeneca is seeking a Strategy Lead in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data in our Technical Operations, Science and Innovation Group (TOSI), in Pharmaceutical Technology and Development Department (PT&D) — an exciting role where you’ll lead the development of our transformational digital strategy and shape how we use artificial intelligence, data and digital solutions to revolutionise how we work.

In this critical position, you will shape the vision for AI and digital strategy and lead the implementation within TOSI, the on-market technical function of our Pharmaceutical Technology & Development (PT&D) organization. TOSI is a multi-skilled, multi-platform, global organisation providing expert technical leadership and support for AstraZeneca commercial small-molecule products from launch throughout the on market life cycle. 

Alongside other digital leaders in AstraZeneca, you will be responsible for defining and also delivering how we use AI, and digital science to transform our everyday work including product transfers, completing technical and regulatory documentation and assessments and complex problem solving.  This role gives you the unique opportunity to influence, shape and drive end-to-end digital integration from our development functions into operations.

What you’ll do

• Architect and implement a forward-thinking digital transformation strategy synced with our business objectives.

• Collaborate with our AI and digital science teams to develop a portfolio of programs that revolutionize TOSI daily operations.

• Drive the development, delivery, implementation and adoption of digital solutions, which enhance efficiency and innovation, aligned with business benefits across TOSI.

• Develop compelling business cases, align senior stakeholders, and secure investments. Measure and track the business benefits we deliver.

• Cultivate a strategic workplace program that boosts digital capabilities, ensuring the organisation is future-ready.

• Transform the digital capability of TOSI, through a mixture of digital solutions, successful captivating deployment and capability uplift.

• Be a transformative leader and subject matter expert in AI and digital CMC solutions, influencing and shaping enterprise success.

• Manage a digital portfolio encompassing resources, budget, and cross-functional collaborations to fulfil needs and influence deliverables.

What You Bring to the Table

• Master’s degree or higher in a relevant science or engineering discipline.

• Technical Expertise, including knowledge in language of AI, data engineering, e.g. Python, R, cloud platforms (AWS/GCP)

• Strong CMC knowledge with experience in Pharmaceutical Product Development and Manufacture, along with comprehensive knowledge of CMC processes across all product stages.

• Strategic Leadership with a proven track record of developing, leading and delivering cross-functional digital strategies and transformative programs within a pharmaceutical CMC context.

• An innovative outlook that leverages a digital-first approach to streamline processes, enhance compliance, and foster efficiency.

• Exceptional business acumen, proficiency in business case development, organisational skills and lean tool deployment.

• Change Management & Agility with ability to drive digital transformation and adapt strategy based on internal constraints or evolving tech/regulatory landscapes

• Experienced in stakeholder management, excellent communication skills, capable of leading and collaborating effectively at senior levels.  Ability to build consensus and navigate conflicts.

• A problem-solving mindset that delivers strategic thinking and substantial business value.

• Have a thorough understanding of principles, applications and management of SHE and cGMP
