We are seeking an experienced Principal Software Engineer SME, with government agency experience, to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for providing technical/management leadership on major tasks or technology assignments, establishing goals and plans that meet project objectives, and handling interactions that involve client negotiations and interfacing with senior management. The ideal candidate will have expert technical knowledge and be comfortable directing and controlling activities for a client, having overall responsibility for financial management, methods, and staffing to ensure that technical requirements are met. You may supervise others. 

This position is onsite at the CANX campus at FT Meade 

SIXGEN supports cyber and intelligence missions by serving government and commercial organizations as they overcome global cybersecurity challenges. Our highly skilled operators conduct research and assessments based on real-world threats. We simulate adversaries and malicious actors to report details and actionable findings on critical assets and infrastructures. Our program planners advise mission owners to bring rapid solutions to intelligence mission leaders. Core Responsibilities:

  • Proficient in data manipulation and transformation, especially with large datasets.
  • Experience working with Elasticsearch or OpenSearch for indexing, searching, and querying large datasets.
  • Ability to optimize searches and manage clusters.
  •  Understanding of how to use Kibana for data exploration, trend analysis, and reporting.
  •  Understanding basic UI/UX principles for a positive user interface experience to convey data in meaningful ways to analysts and decision makers
  • Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or other relevant languages for data processing and UI development.
  • Experience with data science tools like Pandas, NumPy, or similar libraries for data manipulation.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, etc.) is a plus, especially if the data pipeline is running in the cloud.
  • Understanding of distributed systems principles.
  • Experience in taking ideas and proofs of concepts to a minimal viable product.
  • Experience is developing rapid prototypes to meet critical mission needs.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Degree from an accredited college or university in System Engineering or related discipline and one of the following:
    • 15+ years of experience with a Masters Degree
    • 18+ years of experience with a Bachelor's degree
    • 20+ years of experience with Associate's Degree or HS Diploma
  • Exposure to a UI framework like React.js 
  • Exposure to Elasticsearch/OpenSearch 
  • Experience with rapid prototype creation and deployment
  • Comfortable working under tight deadlines as necessary.

  • Clearance Requirement: TS/SCI w/ CI Poly
  • Travel: Minimal. Estimated 10% or less

At SIXGEN, we are committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The anticipated salary range for this role is $204k - $224k per year, depending on experience and qualifications. This range reflects our compensation philosophy, which takes into account various factors including the candidate's relevant experience, education, skills, LCATs rates and position level, and market competitiveness. In addition to base salary, employees may be eligible for other forms of compensation to include our growth incentive program, incentives and benefits. The final salary offer will be determined after a thorough review of the candidate's background and alignment with the role. Please note that this range is subject to change and should be considered as a guideline rather than a definitive figure.
