Summary

The Senior Analyst - Portfolio Solutions is a critical role supporting Harbor Capital's Project Lighthouse, custom Portfolio Solutions, and OCIO business. This position is responsible for providing analytical support and creating high-quality deliverables. The individual will work closely with the Head of Portfolio Solutions, members of the Multi-Asset Solutions Team (MAST), Investment Specialist Team (IST), and Distribution Team, as well as other stakeholders. Key responsibilities include conducting in-depth analysis of advisors' current portfolios, creating proposed portfolio solutions, and supporting Harbor's standard models.

Key Responsibilities

AI/LLM Scan Analysis: Utilize artificial intelligence and Large Language Models (LLMs) to scan advisors' publications and analyze their approach to financial planning, risk management, investment selection, portfolio construction, research methods, investment philosophy, and decision-making frameworks. Identify behavioral biases and evaluate value propositions to clients.

Portfolio Analysis: Conduct thorough analysis of advisors' current models, portfolio performance, risk metrics, and investment strategies. Provide actionable insights for creating custom portfolio solutions, including recommendations for replacement of underlying funds.

Portfolio Construction: Work with the Multi-Asset Solutions Team and Head of Portfolio Solutions to create custom portfolio solutions.

Performance Reporting: Develop and maintain comprehensive performance reporting and attribution of custom models. Provide insights to the Head of Portfolio Solutions and internal teams.

Monitoring of Underlying Investments: Monitor underlying investments of custom models, assess portfolio risk exposures, and recommend replacements as necessary in compliance with internal policies and guidelines.

Strategic Support: Assist in the execution and implementation of Harbor standard models. Collaborate with the Multi-Asset Solutions Team to align models with advisors' current portfolios and identify new opportunities.

Data Management: Ensure the integrity and accuracy of custom portfolios. Utilize advanced analytical tools and collaborate with the IT team to support data management and analytical capabilities.

Client (Advisor) Interaction: Engage with advisors to understand their portfolio solution needs and preferences. Provide tailored insights and create presentations/proposals with custom solutions to meet client needs.

Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvement and innovation within portfolio solutions. Drive initiatives to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

Collaboration with External Managers: Work with external managers and help the process of co-creation of models, run analytics, create reports, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders as necessary.

Market Research: Stay abreast of industry trends in model portfolios, competitor strategies, and latest developments. Translate research findings into strategic inputs for portfolio decision-making.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or a related field. Advanced degree (MBA) or professional designation (CFA) strongly preferred.

  • Experience: Minimum of 8 years of experience in portfolio analysis, investment management, or a related field. Demonstrated expertise in portfolio construction, research, and analysis of funds.

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in analytical tools and data management systems. Experience with Morningstar Direct is REQUIRED. Familiarity with Bloomberg, statistical software, and portfolio management technologies. Proficiency in coding languages e.g. Python, R, strongly preferred.

  • Analytical Skills: Advanced understanding of investments, portfolios, and funds, including portfolio characteristics, style analysis, performance measurement, Modern Portfolio Theory (MPT) statistics, business cycle regimes, tactical portfolio management, volatility targeting, optimization techniques, efficient frontier analysis, and Monte Carlo simulation.

  • Advanced Excel and PowerPoint Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including Analysis ToolPak, Data Analysis, Solver, and PowerPoint is REQUIRED.

  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to articulate complex concepts clearly and effectively to diverse audiences.

  • Analytical Thinking: Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities. Capacity to synthesize large volumes of data into coherent insights and actionable strategies.

  • Team Collaboration: Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage cross-functional projects and initiatives.

Salary Range: $150,000-$175,000 plus bonus eligibility
