Senior Research Assistant/Research Assistant (23240709)

The Department is seeking a Senior Research Assistant/Research Assistant to join a project focused on textual analysis and sentiment analysis of online data using machine learning methods, as well as data analyses of large-scale survey data sets.

Responsibilities:

• Independently scrap online data from various sources, primarily discussion forums and social media platforms, and establish databases;
• Clean and preprocess collected data to ensure its quality and usability for analysis;
• Perform data analysis using a variety of machine-learning models;
• Clean and analyse large-scale survey data sets; and
• Collaborate with the research team to interpret and visualise the results of data analysis.

Requirements:

• A bachelor’s degree or above in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field to computational social science;
• Proficiency in collecting online data and setting up databases;
• Strong familiarity with Natural Language Processing techniques and various machine learning models related to topic modeling and sentiment analysis. Experience in implementing and applying these models, or using Python is highly desirable;
• Advanced skills in quantitative data analysis. Experience in analysing large-scale survey data sets and/or using STATA will be advantageous;
• Strong problem-solving abilities, high self-motivation, reliability, and proactiveness; and
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey findings, and ability to collaborate with the research team.

The initial appointment will be made on a contract of one year with a possibility of extension, subject to satisfactory work performance and funding availability.

Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
