POSITION TITLE: Research Technician
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Racki Lab is looking to hire a highly motivated research technician who is interested in doing fundamental research on pathogenic bacteria with the aim to improve human health. The technician will perform general lab management task, while also working with an experienced postdoctoral fellow in the lab to study fundamental cellular biology and biophysics in bacteria. Perform a variety of routine scientific tasks; may prepare test specimens; set up and operate standard lab equipment of moderate complexity.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- General lab organizational duties such as restocking shelves and autoclaving pipette tips
- Keep an excellent lab notebook (electronically with Benchling)
- Perform microscopy experiments with bacteria
- Analyze microscopy data using custom tools, some based in Python
- General microbiology and molecular biology protocols such as cloning, strain construction, and chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP)
- Present their work in lab meeting every few months
REQUIREMENTS:
- A bachelor’s degree in the biosciences (chemistry, biochemistry, biology, bioengineering, biophysics, microbiology or related field) and up to one (1) year of related experience
- Three (3) to six (6) years of related laboratory experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with molecular biology, such as cloning and strain construction
- Some background with programming, ideally in Python
- An ability to both work well in a team environment, and demonstrate independence in troubleshooting
- Curiosity and a genuine interest in basic academic research
COMPENSATION:
The expected hiring range for this position is $18.67 to $24 per hour, commensurate with experience. Consideration will be given to experience that exceeds the listed requirements.
