We are seeking a Data Scientist I with solid python skills, data analysis experience, and a good foundation in statistics to join our System Analytics team.
In this role, you will collaborate closely with a small team of data scientists and interact with scientists and engineers across the company. You will develop monitoring and alerting infrastructure, generating insights to improve system performance. Day-to-day assignments will include gathering requirements, implementing new alerting features, and analyzing trends across large numbers of sequencing experiments.
This is a full-time 6-month contracting position based in Fremont, California.
How You’ll Contribute
- Maintain and expand SAM Alerts capabilities
- Develop and deploy application-specific alerts (“app alerts”) for every supported Ultima sequencing application
- Review app alerts with stakeholders on a bi-weekly basis
- Revise SAM alerting thresholds for compatibility with new baseline releases, as necessary
- Write and maintain production-quality, well-documented code
- Maintain and add functionality to the SAM dashboard
- Monitor the SAM JIRA board, evaluate and implement feature requests and bug fixes
- Report on development progress in weekly team meetings
- Write and maintain production-quality, well-documented code
- Analyze fleetwide performance issues
- Prioritize issues impacting our ability to meet customer-facing specs
- Provide comprehensive summaries to serve as a starting point for further troubleshooting (e.g. starting dates, trends, correlation to changes in consumables, correlation to HW upgrades or PMs)
- Push for permanent fixes where possible, whether through changes in design, PMs, QC, etc. Otherwise, ensure that the problem can be easily detected and mitigated going forward; introduce new alerted metrics and/or alerting logic as needed
- Communicate findings across departments, including Engineering, Manufacturing, Bioinformatics, Chemistry, Architecture & Integration
- Collaborate across teams on priorities, deadlines, and deliverables
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
- BS degree in Engineering, Physics, or other quantitative field
- Familiarity with Plotly Dash preferred
- Familiarity with relational databases and SQL preferred
- At least 1 year hands-on data science/data analysis experience
- Experience working with scientific data
- Solid python skills, especially NumPy and SciPy
- Machine learning skills (clustering, PCA, linear and logistic regression, etc)
- Strong foundation in statistics and probability
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
