Meta’s Reality Labs Research (RL-R) brings together a world-class team of researchers, developers, and engineers to create the future of augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR). The eye tracking team within RL-R is working on research to enable eye tracking for everyone everywhere, which is key to enabling many groundbreaking experiences.

In this role, you will join a team to collaborate with research scientists, electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, and user experience designers. You will learn constantly, dive into new areas with unfamiliar technologies, and embrace the ambiguity of AR/VR problem solving. You will focus on applying machine learning and computer vision to eye tracking and perception problems, developing technologies that will power future AR/VR devices.

  • Design, implement, and evaluate machine learning and computer vision-based eye tracking models and systems.
  • Work with software engineers, research scientists, electrical engineers, and mechanical engineers to incorporate eye tracking models with demos, data collection systems, and other eye tracking systems.
  • Create tools, infrastructure, and documentation to accelerate research.
  • Collaborate with other research and engineering teams to identify gaps, build solutions, and transfer technology.
  • Perform code reviews that improve software engineering quality.
  • Learn constantly, dive into new areas with unfamiliar technologies, and embrace the ambiguity of AR/VR problem solving.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta
  • Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a PhD degree in Computer Science, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta.
  • Experience with Python.
  • Experience with a common machine learning framework (ex. PyTorch).
  • Experience with ML computer vision.
  • Experience evaluating and improving the performance (speed, power consumption) of ML systems.
  • Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with C++.
  • Experience with non-ML computer vision, especially with OpenCV.
  • Experience working in AR/VR.
  • Experience developing software in a research environment.
  • Familiarity with optics, lasers, and sensors.
  • Experience working and communicating cross-functionally in a team environment.
  • Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, as well as first-authored publications at leading workshops or conferences.
  • Demonstrated software engineer experience via an internship, work experience, coding competitions, or widely used contributions in open source repositories (e.g. GitHub).
