About the role
The rapid acceleration of data, digital and AI capabilities and strategies across Anglicare is mission critical in revolutionising our ability to serve our diverse and vulnerable communities.
The Senior Data Engineer (AI & ML) will play a foundational role in building the advanced data and AI infrastructure of our organisation. Reporting to the GM, Digital & Data, this role exists to ensure the availability of clean, scalable, and secure data pipelines that power analytics, machine learning, and next-generation AI solutions.
As part of a small, high-impact innovation Tiger Team, you will not only manage the flow of data across systems but also help operationalise ML models and lead technical efforts to prototype, secure, and deploy generative AI tools, including hosting LLMs on Azure or integrating with external providers. Your work will enable our organisation to build from traditional BI reporting to delivering an intelligent, AI-powered, and insight-rich environment across aged care, retirement living, housing and community services.
In addition to marquee greenfield AI and ML projects, your considerable data analysis and transformation skills will also contribute to cleaning and building our organisation’s master data domains, where your novel AI and ML workflows will drive an enhanced data asset base.
This role is a strategic enabler of innovation across the organisation. It combines traditional data engineering rigour with cutting-edge AI/ML readiness to unlock value faster and more securely than ever before.

Key Skills
Expertise in DevOps, Python and SQL for data transformation and pipeline orchestration.
Advanced knowledge of Databricks and Spark-based data engineering.
Experience deploying ML models in production environments following CI/CD best practices.
Familiarity with Azure-based architecture and tools (e.g., Azure Data Factory, Azure ML).
Understanding of containerisation, APIs, and serverless compute environments.
Exposure to large language models and generative AI integration.
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Machine Learning, or a related field.
5+ years of experience in data engineering, with at least 1–2 years supporting ML use cases.
Demonstrated experience with Databricks and Azure.
Experience integrating AI/ML models with applications, dashboards, or digital tools.
Experience with generative AI tools (e.g., OpenAI, Hugging Face, LangChain) is a strong plus.
Experience working in cross-functional teams, especially in health, care, or purpose-driven organisations is desirable.
