The Opportunity:

We are seeking a versatile, curious, and energetic Senior Data Engineer to join our team of passionate and dedicated engineers. As the backbone of Data Engineering and Machine Learning innovation at Visa, we thrive on solving complex challenges at global scale.

In this role, you will be a key member of a cross-functional team that invents, designs, builds, and tests data-driven products serving a worldwide customer base. You’ll also have the opportunity to redefine how data products are built at Visa by contributing to cutting-edge AI and data platform initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in building and maintaining data pipelines for structured and unstructured data under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Support the development of internal APIs and data services that enable secure access to data and ML model outputs.
  • Contribute to ensuring data quality, observability, and performance through testing, monitoring, and validation efforts.
  • Work with senior engineers and data scientists to prototype and implement machine learning models for business applications such as recommendation systems and NLP tasks.
  • Learn and support the development of LLM-based applications, including prompt engineering and basic retrieval techniques.
  • Participate in model experimentation and help automate basic evaluation workflows.
  • Contribute to the development of infrastructure components that enable scalable AI workflows and decision-making loops.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including data scientists, senior software engineers, and product managers to deliver high-impact data-driven solutions.

This is a hybrid position. Expectation of days in office will be confirmed by your Hiring Manager.

Qualifications

Basic Qualification
•Minimum of 6 months of work experience or a Bachelor's Degree

Preferred Qualification
•2 or more years of work experience
•Familiarity with Python and at least one data engineering or ML-related framework (e.g., PySpark, Pandas, Scikit-learn).
•Academic or project-based experience with GenAI concepts such as LLMs (e.g., GPT, Claude, Mistral) and prompt engineering.
•Understanding of vector databases (e.g., FAISS, Pinecone) or RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) workflows is a plus.
•Basic knowledge of cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, or Azure and their AI/data services (e.g., S3, BigQuery, SageMaker).
•Experience working with SQL and relational databases, exposure to NoSQL is a bonus.
•Interest in orchestration tools like LangChain, LangGraph, or similar agentic AI systems.
•Familiarity with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and agile development processes.
•Passion for GenAI, eagerness to learn emerging technologies, and strong problem-solving mindset.
•Strong communication and collaboration skills to work in cross-functional, innovation-driven teams.

Additional Information

Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.

Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting.  The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is 95,200.00 to 134,600.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity. Visa has a comprehensive benefits package for which this position may be eligible that includes Medical, Dental, Vision, 401 (k), FSA/HSA, Life Insurance, Paid Time Off, and Wellness Program.
