Director of Engineering - Gaming

We are looking for a Director of Engineering to join our growing team here at Happening. The Gaming Platform team represents a key differentiation for our gaming vertical, utilizing a cloud-based architecture that takes full advantage of the power of the cloud in all its components. Our platform leverages a real-time data architecture and a streaming-based system to deliver data-driven experiences for users. The Gaming Platform team works closely together with other cross-functional teams in the gaming area, focusing on building the internal proprietary platform that drives our business across all the countries we operate in. We seek an experienced Director of Engineering to support the Gaming Platform team as we continue delivering a scalable, reliable, and maintainable streaming-driven platform.

What you’ll be doing:

• Partnering to define the strategy and vision of the Gaming organization, building new teams to achieve it, and growing the existing teams
• Leading by example as an Experimentation and Outcome-driven organization
• Landing organisational impact for Happening/Superbet by influencing strategy, driving business decisions, and building relationships with partners and stakeholders to drive outcomes (Product, Marketing, Design, Commercial, Leadership)
• Partnering with teams across the company to land improvements on their products
• Building, supporting and driving an organization made up of multiple teams of engineers including frontend, backend, full stack, data scientists and data engineers
• Providing people management support and direction to your managers and teams in the form of hiring, coaching, support, feedback, performance management and reviews
• Owning technical strategy and direction for your teams by handling ambiguity, building/driving roadmaps, ensuring Engineering excellence, setting goals and measuring impact

What we’re looking for:

• Deep product knowledge and experience driving improvements to some or all portions of the user journey of a product
• Knowledge of experimentation techniques, frameworks and evaluation methods
• Engineering leader who thinks about the big picture and can evaluate complex, ambiguous trade-offs and to achieve the right outcome(s)
• Proven experience (8+ years) in software engineering or related roles
• Proven experience (5+ years) leading/managing an engineering team, supporting the growth and performance of engineers and managers
• Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning, or a related field. (otherwise, 11+ years of experience)
• Extreme proactivity and autonomy in the face of ambiguity, identifies problems and drives solutions to them via themselves as well as others
• Deep understanding of the complex technical problems, software development lifecycle and ensuring reliability and stability of services
• Track record of driving clarity via written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills and organizational skills
• Experience resolving complex engineering and communication issues across teams and organizations

Bonus points for:

• Experience in online casino or sports betting products and driving improvements to them
• Understanding of ML models and leveraging them to drive product improvement
• Supporting of a global organization across multiple time zones, with different role types
