Description
The Research Scientist is responsible for conducting reproducible AI/ML research and developing computer vision applications for the segmentation and quantification of muscle and bone tissues in medical images, such as CT scans. The Research Scientist is also responsible for assisting engineers with the deployment of the developed ML models and the release of ML products. Additionally, the Research Scientist is responsible for generating documentation to support FDA submissions.Key Responsibilities
• Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders, including product and service teams, to define research questions and execute research initiatives in medical image analysis.• Develop, apply, and validate supervised and unsupervised algorithms for image segmentation, classification, and detection.
• Participate in the annotation and labeling of medical image datasets to create high-quality ground truth data for training and evaluation.
• Leverage generative AI techniques for tasks such as data augmentation and image standardization to enhance model performance.
• Use principles of Responsible AI to ensure developed algorithms are interpretable, robust, and ethical.
• Conduct reproducible studies with professional, well-maintained documentation; ensure proper organization of data and code repositories; and contribute to the preparation of progress reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
• Maintains substantial knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories, and may contribute to scientific literature and conferences. May participate in development of patent applications. May coordinate interdepartmental activities and research efforts.
• Know and apply the Quality System and relevant Federal and International standards.
Skills Knowledge and Expertise
Education:- PhD or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or another imaging-related field.
- Experience with image processing and annotation software, such as 3D Slicer.
- Must have at least one peer-reviewed publication in the field of medical imaging and AI/ML. Publications in prominent computer vision conferences such as MICCAI, CVPR, ICCV, or similar venues are highly preferred
- Strong background in technical principles, methods, and practices in the following areas: computer vision, machine learning, generative AI, medical imaging, and statistical methods (linear algebra, calculus).
- Proficiency in Python and use of TensorFlow and/or PyTorch frameworks, CUDA-based development and deployment, and libraries such as SimpleITK or Monai.
- Familiarity with building ML pipelines on public cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, or AWS.
- Familiarity with using Git and GitHub for version control and collaboration is required.
- Excellent communication (verbal & written) and organizational skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and must be able to work effectively in a remote team environment.
