Overview

SRI's Hardware Research & Technology Lab (HRTL) works to develop climate solutions to produce less and sequester CO2, expend less energy, and cool the planet, deliver novel and ubiquitous sensing through device fabrication and edge analytics, create new materials that perform in new ways, engineer bio-devices for cell screening, drug discovery, and drug delivery, offer our fully developed cleanroom to design, develop, fabricate, prototype, and scale device production and work with partners to bring technologies to market

 

Join HRTL as a Research Intern and drive innovation in gas sensing systems. Gain hands-on experience in troubleshooting, fabrication, and data analysis while collaborating with top minds at SRI. Responsibilities

  • Electrical debugging (multimeter, o-scope, linear circuits) of gas sensor devices
  • Fabrication of gas sensor devices followed by their electrical, electronic and functional testing
  • Troubleshooting hardware, networking or communication issues with gas sensor devices
  • Gas sensor data collection, analysis and presentation

Qualifications

  • Currrent undergraduate or graduate student majoring in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
  • Ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 5 lbs
  • Experience with electrical debugging (multimeter, o-scope, linear circuits)
  • Exposure to shop practices, machining, soldering or electronics assembly through coursework or workshops
  • Knowledge of microcontroller programming from embedded systems or microprocessor courses (Arduino, raspberry pi). 
  • Practical experience with Python and C/C++ from coursework, assignments, or projects 
  • Basic understanding of networking concepts (e.g., TCP/IP, Wi-Fi protocols)
  • Practical experience with electrical/electronic device functional testing and validation
  • Experience with basic data analysis and statistics 
  • Experience presenting findings through academic presentations, research projects, or reports

The salary range is: $20-$35/hr. Salary ranges will vary and are based on several factors, including geographic location, market competitiveness and equity amongst internal employees in similar roles. Positions may also qualify for SRI's Pay for Outstanding Performance program or the annual Performance Based Compensation program.
