About the role
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Healthcare Economics Analyst to join our team. The successful candidate will leverage advanced data analytics to provide actionable insights that support Texicare leadership in healthcare decision-making processes. This role focuses on analyzing healthcare claims data, assessing cost trends, evaluating outcomes, and helping to develop strategies that improve payer efficiency, reduce costs, and optimize healthcare outcomes for Texicare. This is a hybrid position, working out of our Austin headquarters a few days a week.
In this role, you will work on:
- Claims Data Analysis: you will analyze large volumes of healthcare claims data, including medical, pharmacy, and diagnostic information, to identify patterns, trends, and opportunities for cost reduction or quality improvement.
- Reporting & Insights Generation: you will develop and deliver regular reports, dashboards, and presentations to stakeholders, summarizing key findings and insights from data analysis. Translate complex data into understandable insights for non-technical audiences.
- Trend Identification: you will identify emerging trends in healthcare utilization, cost, and outcomes, and work with internal teams to recommend strategies to mitigate rising costs or optimize resource allocation.
- Cost and Utilization Analysis: you will conduct detailed analyses of healthcare utilization and cost drivers, providing recommendations for cost containment, clinical outcomes improvement, and resource optimization.
- Reimbursement Strategy Support: you will provide physician and hospital reimbursement model support to ensure Texicare proprietary networks are competitive in the marketplace.
- Data Integration & Data Quality Assurance: you will ensure accurate data integration from multiple sources, such as claims, electronic health records (EHR), and other Texicare datasets. Conduct quality checks and validate the integrity of the data being used.
- Collaboration with Stakeholders: you will collaborate with internal departments, such as actuarial, finance, clinical, and network teams, to align healthcare data insights with business strategies and objectives.
- Ad-Hoc Analysis and Special Projects: you will conduct ad-hoc analyses to support strategic business initiatives, such as program evaluation, plan design changes, and regulatory reporting.
- Healthcare Policy & Compliance: you will stay informed about changes in healthcare regulations, payer requirements, and healthcare reform to ensure that analyses are in line with industry standards and compliance guidelines.
To be successful in this role, you should have:
- Bachelor's degree in Health Economics, Public Health, Healthcare Administration, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field. A master’s degree in a related field is a plus.
- At least 2 years of experience in healthcare data analysis, preferably within a payer (insurance) environment, healthcare consulting, or a healthcare provider organization
- Experience with healthcare claims data (medical, pharmacy, and laboratory claims)
- Knowledge of payer operations, cost containment strategies, and reimbursement methodologies is preferred
- Proficiency in data analysis and reporting tools such as Microsoft Excel, Tableau, Power BI, SQL, R, Python, SAS, or similar analytics platforms
- Familiarity with health data platforms (e.g., claims management systems, electronic health records, data warehouses)
- Strong knowledge of healthcare terminology, coding systems (CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS), and industry standards (e.g., HIPAA compliance)
- Strong statistical and analytical skills with the ability to conduct complex data manipulations and modeling
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex data to diverse audiences
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
