This critical role will be responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive strategy to collect, transport, store, and analyze technology logs and data relevant to managing cybersecurity and technology risk.
Responsibilities
- Program Leadership - Develop and refine the overall vision and strategy for the Cyber Data Engineering program, aligning it with business objectives, risk appetite, and industry best practices.
- Team Management - Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of cybersecurity engineers. Foster a collaborative and results-oriented environment. Assign tasks, provide feedback, and conduct performance reviews.
- SIEM Platform Management - Oversee the administration, configuration, and optimization of our SIEM platoform(s). Ensure SIEM platforms are fully integrated with other security tools and data sources. Partner with the security operations team to develop and refine correlation rules, alerts, and dashboards.
- Cyber and Risk Analytic Platforms – Oversee necessary platforms or product components that provide reporting and analytic capability identify risk, anomalous activity, or suspect behavior.
- Data Source Onboarding – Implement an efficient design and process for onboarding new data sources into our security data ecosystem, sufficient to meet the demand of the organization’s security monitoring requirements.
- Data Collection and Transport – Design and deliver a robust solution to collect, transport, filter/transform, and route security data to appropriate destinations for retention and analysis.
- Security Logging Requirements – Partner with stakeholder teams to help define or mature security logging requirements for platforms and applications.
- Process Improvement - Continuously evaluate and improve the various cyber data engineering processes, identifying areas for automation, optimization, and increased efficiency. Develop and maintain relevant policies, procedures, and standards.
- Reporting & Metrics - Develop and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to track the effectiveness of the data engineering program. Provide regular reports to senior management on vulnerability trends, remediation progress, and overall security posture.
- Compliance & Audits: Ensure compliance with relevant security regulations and standards (e.g., PCI DSS, HIPAA, NIST). Support internal and external audits related to vulnerability management.
- Collaboration & Communication - Effectively communicate vulnerability information and remediation recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences. Collaborate with other security teams, IT operations, and business units.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
- 12+ years of experience in technology, with a focus on cybersecurity technology, log management, and data analysis/engineering.
- 5+ years of experience in a leadership role, managing team members and setting technical direction.
- Experience developing and running security log management and analysis functions in an enterprise environment.
- Deep understanding of log/data collection, transport, and transform/filtering approaches and solutions
- Expert level knowledge of SIEM platforms, including the full product lifecycle from requirement gathering to implementation and continuous optimization.
- Deep knowledge of UEBA and other non-SIEM risk analytic products and capabilities.
- Able to work effectively and efficiently toward detailed goals in a complex environment with fluid priorities.
- Strong analytical, problem solving and project management skills.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills - including senior stakeholder management, executive presentations, and vendor relationship managmeent.
