Overview:
The Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology invites applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE) position at the rank of Post-Doctoral Fellow. The position will commence as soon as possible. The initial appointment will be for a one-year term, with potential for annual renewal. Salary will be $70,000. The successful applicant will work with Dr. Andrew Roth as a part of the multidisciplinary Gynecologic Cancer Initiative team (GCI, https://gynecancerinitiative.ca) and bioinformatics team of the BC Cancer’s Department of Molecular Oncology (http://molonc.bccrc.ca).
The UBC Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology has training programs at the undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate levels, and pursues research to make innovative advancements in knowledge and translate it to practice to improve health. The Department consists of more than 300 physicians and scientists as well as over 50 administrative, research, and technical staff. Specialty training programs are offered in gynaecologic oncology, maternal fetal medicine, reproductive endocrinology and infertility, as well as advanced training programs in endometriosis, pelvic pain and advanced laparoscopic surgery, family planning, vulvovaginal health and female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery.
We are studying genomic alterations in gynecologic cancers. We have amassed whole genome and whole transcriptome sequencing data sets for a variety of gynecologic malignancies (endometrial, ovarian, vulvar, cervical, and some rare cancers), including over 200 previously unanalyzed samples. The successful candidate will work with basic scientists and clinical researchers to uncover insights into the biology of the tumors and avenues for targeted treatments. We are looking for someone who has strong communication and leadership skills and who will work well in a group setting. There will be considerable latitude for a successful candidate to set the research direction and computational approach to the data.
Qualifications:
- PhD in Biology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Statistics or a related quantitative field.
- Experience working with large genomic datasets.
- Experience running and developing bioinformatics pipelines in a high-performance computing environment using Nextflow or a similar workflow manager.
- Strong background in data science, machine learning preferred.
- Strong programming skills in R and/or Python required.
