The Data Scientist role requires developing and analyzing market models, identifying key factors driving market trends, and using data analytics to provide strategic insights. While industry-specific experience, particularly in oil and gas, is helpful, it is not required. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data analytic techniques, proficiency in Python, familiarity with data management and storage solutions such as Databricks or Snowflake, and a passion for using data to tackle complex business challenges.

WORKSTYLE MODEL 

We know work-life balance is the key; therefore we support a hybrid work schedule involving three days per week in the office and two days at home, though you are welcome to work from the office every day if desired.

Key Responsibilities:

Market Modelling and Analysis:

  • Develop and maintain sophisticated market models using Python to analyse market trends, price movements, and key drivers.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis of market data, identifying significant factors and trends that impact business decisions.
  • Implement statistical methods and machine learning techniques to improve forecasting accuracy and model performance.
  • Comprehensively document market data descriptions, specifications, requirements, content, and procedures for each model.
  • Ensure documentation accuracy and accessibility, facilitating efficient knowledge sharing and operational continuity across teams.

Data Management and Database Skills:

  • Handle and manipulate large datasets using Python, SQL or other database technologies.
  • Ensure data integrity and accuracy through meticulous validation and quality control processes.
  • Extract, transform, and load (ETL) data from multiple sources to support analytical needs.

Strategic Insights and Reporting

  • Provide actionable insights and recommendations based on market analysis and model outputs.
  • Prepare and present reports, visualisations, and dashboards to communicate findings to clients and other internal and external audiences.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional Commodities teams to integrate analytical findings into business strategies.

Technical Skills Development:

  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in Python programming, data analytics, and market modelling techniques.
  • Continuously grow your technical skills and explore innovative ways to improve analytical processes and models.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Engineering, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated ability using Python for data analysis and modelling.
  • Strong understanding of databases, including relational database management systems, and structured data.
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis, machine learning (ML) techniques, and their application in market forecasting.
  • Proven experience working with large datasets and proficiency in data manipulation and visualisation tools, such as PowerBI.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of LSEG Workspace (API) is an advantage but not required.
