How you will make an impact:

We are hiring a data engineering lead for our growing data engineering team. We’ve currently a largely greenfield infrastructure & barebones team so this is a great opportunity with a large scope. This will be an individual contributor role with expectation for the majority of time hands-on in the codebase. The main focus will be to map out the technical needs, propose and develop prototypes and code working implementations. This role will have a large influence over our tech stack and technical direction for the Data Engineering infrastructure. Ensuring delivery of robust, functional and scalable solutions for the immediate needs along with the future capabilities. 

Your experience will also be invaluable to the rest of the team. Lead the team from the technical perspective, mentoring more junior staff and developing the skillset within the entire team. Interfacing with the Data Engineering Manager in this aspect but also as the technical lead for requests from sister teams (Data Science & Data Analytics), and external to our department. Additional Roles/Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for technical leadership of the Data Engineering team

  • Scope out and propose new structures, concepts and tech stack components to ensure a robust & efficient Data infrastructure

  • Deliver and deploy prototypes and larger code commits. Build, maintain, and improve the infrastructure codebase (ETL Pipelines, Algorithm & Model deployments etc.)

  • Aid with interfacing with Data Science, Data analytics and external teams to understand requirements

  • Architect & design the Data Engineering roadmap. Work with management to align on Data Engineering task priorities and scope

  • Working alongside the Data Engineering Manager, to mentor and guide the other members of the team. Ensure high levels of technical proficiency and skill development

  • Contribute to the teams’ processes & culture (Defining best practices, conducting code reviews etc.)

  • Demonstrate good data governance practices and approaches equivalent to the risks and needs of the team

  • Ensure the highest levels of confidentiality and sensitivity for dealing with Patient Health Information (PHI)

What you'll need (Required):

  • Bachelor's Degree in Data Engineering, Software Development, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or similar Scientific field with a minimum of 6 years of experience, including either industry or industry/education -OR-

  • Master's Degree or equivalent in Data Engineering, Software Development, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or similar Scientific field with a minimum of 5 years of experience, including either industry or industry/education -OR-

  • Ph.D. or equivalent in Data Engineering, Software Development, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or similar Scientific field with a minimum of 2 years of experience, including either industry or industry/education

  • Previous hands-on knowledge of Data Engineering & cloud infrastructure (AWS EC2, S3, Lambda, etc.)

What else we look for (Preferred):

  • Demonstrated experience in leading project teams and complex structural introductions

  • Proficiency in the usage of relevant computer software

  • Excellent documentation and communication skills

  • Excellent interpersonal relationship skills including negotiating and relationship management skills

  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of principles, theories, and concepts relevant to Engineering

  • Advanced problem-solving, organizational, analytical and critical thinking skills

  • Extensive understanding of processes and equipment used in assigned work

  • Ability to influence others

  • Knowledge of and adherence to Edwards Environmental Health and Safety and Quality guidelines as they relate to department clean room medical device manufacturing

  • Strict attention to detail

  • Ability to interact professionally with all organizational levels

  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast paced environment

  • Must be able to work in a team environment, including frequent inter-organizational and outside customer contacts

  • Represents organization in providing solutions to difficult technical issues associated with specific projects

  • Adhere to all company rules and requirements (e.g., pandemic protocols, Environmental Health & Safety rules) and take adequate control measures in preventing injuries to themselves and others as well as to the protection of environment and prevention of pollution under their span of influence/control

For Illinois (IL), the base pay range for this position is $118,000 to $167,000 (highly experienced). The pay for the successful candidate will depend on various factors (e.g., qualifications, education, prior experience).  Applications will be accepted while this position is posted on our Careers website.
