CoStar’s Core Technical team is growing and we’re looking for a Manager, Data Engineering to help accelerate our growth. This team specifically focuses on revenue, building the systems that power all of our commerce. $2.7bn of revenue flows through our system and as we are growing, we’re looking for a person knowledgeable in all aspects of data storage and warehousing. We store and process vast amounts of data, in SQL, Elastic Search, and other cloud-based data storage systems. As we expand globally, we’re looking for a person to guide, design, and lead the construction of a next-generation data system. This individual will help build out the data engineering team for the internal financial platform and work across all departments to build a resilient and high performing architecture. You will oversee various aspects of our data management, ranging from designing and maintaining automated data infrastructure and spearheading Data engineering and Analytics solutions to facilitating data access and analysis for key company teams.

This position is in Arlington, VA and offers a hybrid schedule of 4 days onsite, 1 day remote.

Responsibilities

  • Hands-on in being able to design, build, test, deploy and maintain real-time and batch processed data from SQL relational transactional databases to Elastic document copies to streaming transformations in cloud-based systems .

  • Have your hands on a massive set of SQL server databases on a daily basis. CoStar operates a truly massive farm of relational databases and this role involves daily work in that space.

  • Grow our highly hybrid system. We currently are a hybrid of relational and document, as well as on and off-prem, data storage. This role will help us strategically expand that footprint.

  • Ensuring that data, whether structured or unstructured, is easily accessible and usable to analysts and data scientists for insights and analysis.

  • Hands-on experience working with Snowflake/Databricks; including SQL skills, table creation, managing and deriving aggregates through tables/views

  • Overseeing the design and construction of large-scale data processing systems.

  • Act as a player coach to a growing team of data engineers

  • Understand various data domains and be able to translate them through data transformations to suit various business needs

  • Responsible for data solutioning and architecture – multi-dimensional modelling, championing Single record of truth and avoiding redundancies.

  • Oversee automated data infrastructure: Collaborate with software engineering and product teams to streamline data tracking in our products.

  • Ability to integrate data from different sources via cross domain data stitch into existing data model

  • Data Governance (Metadata management, privacy (at database and reporting level)

  • Hands-on data optimization and query performance

  • Liaise with key company teams (DBA, DevOps, SecOps…) for data accessibility and analysis

  • Mentor and manage engineers and analysts in the normal execution of their responsibilities.

  • Successfully implement software development projects to specification and within scheduled timelines and budget parameters

  • Drive continuous improvement within team by focusing on engineering excellence

  • Work with recruiting to identify, hire and onboard top industry talent

  • Continually evaluate emerging technologies to identify opportunities, trends and best practices that can be used to strengthen CoStar’s technology platform and development practices.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or adjacent field required from an accredited, not for profit, university or college

  • A track record of commitment to prior employers

  • 5+ years of experience leading engineering and/or data analytics teams

  • Proven ability to lead and motivate cross-functional teams while thriving in a fast-paced growth tech environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to build strong internal relationships and managing key stakeholders, including C-Suite.

  • 8+ years of experience with SQL, Python, business intelligence, and data warehousing

  • Advanced SQL, Excel and Python skills

  • Knowledge of business intelligence software (i.e. Power BI, Tableau, Kibana) and web analytics tools (i.e. Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, BigQuery)

  • Ability to retrieve, synthesize, and present critical data in structures that is immediately useful to answering specific ad-hoc questions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with large, clustered relational databases, such as Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle

  • Experience working with document storage systems such as Elastic/Lucene

  • Experience with Cloud data lakes/storage/databases and tools such as AWS S3, Snowflake, Databricks, Data Pipeline and other Cloud providers such as AWS

  • Experience working with and managing large consumer datasets to derive insights

  • Background in the residential or commercial real estate industry
