Job Description

Ready to Shape the Future of Travel & Lifestyle?

At AirAsia MOVE, we're building the leading travel and lifestyle superapp for ASEAN and beyond! We're looking for a passionate and sharp mid level Data Scientist to join us in Kuala Lumpur. If you love diving into data, uncovering insights, and building intelligent solutions that directly impact millions of users, this is your boarding call! You'll be at the heart of the action, using data to make travel smoother, experiences richer, and our platform smarter.

Your Day-to-Day Adventure (Responsibilities):

  • Chart the Course with Data: Design, build, test, and launch cutting-edge models (predictive, ML, statistical, optimization) that enhance everything from flight searches and hotel recommendations to fintech solutions and personalized offers within the AirAsia MOVE app.

  • Explore the Data Universe: Dive deep into vast datasets using your analytical toolkit. Uncover hidden patterns, test bold hypotheses, run 'what-if' scenarios, and translate complex findings into clear, actionable insights for fellow Allstars (our team members!).

  • Build & Launch Smart Solutions: Implement, fine-tune, and deploy machine learning and mathematical models (using Python or Golang) that are scalable, efficient, and ready to handle the demands of our superapp.

  • Experiment & Elevate: Design and run A/B tests and experiments like a pro to measure the real-world impact of your creations, ensuring we're always improving the user journey.

  • Power Up with MLOps: Deploy your models into our cloud environment (especially GCP), building and automating robust data pipelines. Think like an engineer to ensure security, performance, and availability.

  • Innovate with Generative AI: Get hands-on with GenAI! Explore and apply techniques like RAG systems to revolutionize tasks like data labeling, building smarter chatbots, enriching user profiles, and enabling semantic search across our diverse offerings.

  • Collaborate Across Borders: Work shoulder-to-shoulder with product managers, engineers, designers, and business strategists in a fast-paced, agile environment. Understand their needs and translate them into data-driven solutions.

  • Share Your Discoveries: Clearly communicate your technical wizardry and insights to everyone, from tech gurus to business leaders. Maintain top-notch documentation for your models and systems.

  • Fly High with Best Practices: Champion clean code, rigorous code reviews (Git), and thorough documentation. Stay curious and constantly learn about the latest in data science, AI, and the travel tech landscape.

Your Allstar Profile (Requirements & Qualifications):

  • Academic Foundation: A Bachelor's or Master's degree in a quantitative field like Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, AI, Econometrics, Operations Research, or similar.

  • Flight Experience: 1-3 years of hands-on experience in data science, applied machine learning, or a related tech role. Show us what you've built!

  • Tech Toolkit:

    • Coding Chops: Fluent in Python for data wrangling and model building (Golang is a cool bonus!).

    • DS Libraries: Skilled with standard tools (Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch).

    • Data Handling: Strong SQL skills are essential; experience with NoSQL databases is a plus.

    • Visualization: Ability to tell stories with data using tools like Matplotlib, Seaborn, Tableau, or Power BI.

  • Stats Savvy: Good grasp of applied statistics relevant to business – think testing, modeling, regression, and understanding distributions.

  • CS Fundamentals: Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and how computers tick.

  • Dev Habits: Experience with Git, code reviews, and writing documentation people actually want to read.

  • The MOVE Mindset:

    • Excellent communicator and collaborator – you work well with diverse teams.

    • Adaptable, resilient, and thrive in a fast-moving, dynamic environment (like an airport!).

    • A natural problem-solver who can balance speed with quality.

    • Open to new ideas and approaches (like design thinking).

Bonus Points (Specialized Experience - Show us your superpowers!):

  • Machine Learning: Deep understanding and practical application of ML algorithms (k-NN, SVM, Trees, etc.) and experience deploying models.

  • GenAI: Proven experience or projects using Generative AI (especially RAG systems) for creative and practical solutions.

  • Algorithm: Strong skills in implementing, optimizing, and deploying complex algorithms in Python/Golang, focusing on scalability and performance.

  • Operations Research: Familiarity with modeling problems using mathematical programming, constraint satisfaction, or simulation, and tools like CPLEX, Gurobi, or Google OR-Tools.

Preferred Upgrades (Nice-to-Haves):

  • An advanced degree (Master's/PhD).

  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), especially AI/ML services.

  • Knowledge of MLOps tools and practices.

  • Experience building data products from scratch to launch.

  • Passion for travel, e-commerce, or fintech!
