Job Summary

The Opportunity

Comcast's AI Technologies team is looking for an Engineer 6, Machine Learning Engineer to lead the design, development, and deployment of advanced AI/ML systems that optimize IT and Network operations across Comcast Cable. This role is ideal for someone who combines deep machine learning expertise, strong software engineering foundations, and strategic leadership experience. You will be the technical anchor for initiatives including anomaly detection, automated triage and mitigation, root cause analysis, and AI-accelerated network planning and deployment.

What You’ll Do

Leadership & Architecture

Serve as the technical lead for AI/ML projects that support critical IT and network operations.

Architect scalable ML platforms and services across the full AI lifecycle — from experimentation to production.

Own a substantial technical domain with multiple ML-powered services, with deep understanding of the architecture, codebase, and data flow.

Strategic Impact

Drive the long-term technical strategy for the AI operations platform, identifying opportunities for innovation and scale.

Shape the roadmap for foundational and applied AI workstreams in collaboration with product, engineering, and operations stakeholders.

Lead cross-functional initiatives with impact scope comparable to Director-level roles.

Delivery & Execution

Break down complex initiatives into executable components and coordinate delivery across multiple teams.

Guide teams in estimating, planning, and sequencing work across iterative releases.

Lead design reviews, set technical direction, and ensure production-grade implementation quality.

Mentorship & Influence

Mentor engineers and researchers both within and beyond the immediate team.

Act as a trusted technical advisor to stakeholders ranging from senior executives to junior engineers.

Foster best practices in ML development, model deployment, experimentation, and system observability.

Collaboration & Communication

Communicate clearly and credibly across diverse audiences: translating deep technical ideas into business outcomes, and vice versa.

Build alignment across teams with competing priorities, and help teams converge on critical architectural and design decisions.

Represent Comcast’s AI work internally and externally through presentations, whitepapers, and thought leadership.

About You

Required Experience

10+ years in software engineering, with 5+ years leading ML-focused initiatives from ideation through production.

Deep expertise in applied machine learning, including time-series modeling, causal inference, foundation models, graph-based learning, or anomaly detection.

Strong background in system design, distributed architectures, and platform engineering.

Proven success in designing and delivering large-scale ML systems in production environments.

Experience in technical project leadership, including coordinating work across multiple teams.

Exceptional communication skills with the ability to influence without formal authority.

Preferred Experience

Prior experience in telecom, cable, or media domains, especially in network automation, observability, or operations.

Familiarity with MLOps tools and modern ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, MLflow, …) as well as GenAI and agent development frameworks (Azure AI Foundry, Google Vertex AI, AWS Bedrock, …).

Experience with cloud-native architectures (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and modern data platforms.

Job Description

Core Responsibilities

  • Guides the successful completion of high profile, revenue impacting programs that use machine learning as essential components. Determines the technical objectives of an assignment. Serves as a leader across multiple teams for machine learning technologies and areas of research, including the design of prototypes and partnering with the product team.
  • Leads teams in the design and development of specifications, technical requirements, algorithms and frameworks of custom machine learning based designs for future products and applications.
  • Acts as a subject matter expert in designing and prototyping high complexity machine learning models. Leads innovation in technical capability delivery.
  • Leads the realization of cutting-edge technical capabilities into business applications and solutions by being responsible for applying advanced algorithms and techniques to software solutions.
  • Researches, writes and edits documentation and technical requirements, including evaluation plans, confluence pages, white papers, presentations, test results, technical manuals, formal recommendations and reports. Creates patents, application programming interfaces (APIs) and other intellectual property. Presents papers and/or attends conferences, as well as displaying leadership in these areas.
  • Tests and evaluates solutions presented to the Company by various internal and external partners and vendors. Leads teams in completing case studies, testing and reporting.
  • Represents the work team and organization as the prime technical contact for one or more areas.
  • Serves as a leader to others on assigned projects. Provides guidance and leadership to more junior engineers.
  • Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
  • Regular, consistent and punctual attendance. Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and overtime as necessary.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
