The Trading Manager will be responsible for short term revenue optimisation of Eku Energy’s battery fleet in Australia as well as providing support to other regions particularly in APAC. This is done by achieving as much net revenue as possible under the physical and financial constraints of the assets. It is expected that the Trading Manager will be a key point of contact for external parties assisting with revenue optimisation and our JV partner to continuously improve the bidding. This will include evaluation of not just bidding strategies within the current platforms but also an evaluation of future platforms.

The other key component is timely and accurate communication of asset performance up to and including board level. There will also be a need for ongoing commentary around current market movement where relevant to ensure that the team stays up to date with latest market movements.

Responsibilities of the role

  • Maximisation of short term revenue for Eku operational assets
  • Setting and executing asset trading strategy with trading partners
  • Proactive monitoring and management of trading operations
  • Working with Asset Management to ensure trading strategy is in line with OEM warranty obligations
  • Ensure compliance with the NER and other relevant legislation, including compliance monitoring, assessing and reporting.
  • Regular revenue performance and strategy assessment and reporting for project SPV, project partners and Eku management
  • Interpreting and ensuring asset operations and trading adequately incorporates the requirements of each assets revenue contract structure
  • Regular reporting on market conditions and considerations for new project developments and existing assets
  • Identifying, structuring and negotiating short term revenue products to improve asset revenue
  • Identify and structure asset portfolio

Requirements

Minimum requirements include

  • Degree qualification in a numerical degree (engineering, commerce, data science etc).
  • Previous experience in spot trading within the National Electricity Market (NEM).
  • Working knowledge of the NER and other legislation as it relates to bidding and asset operation in the NEM.
  • Highly numerical with advanced Excel skills and some coding (python, R etc) expected.
  • Clear communicator including at very senior level.
  • Must be available for some interstate and possible overseas travel as required.

Experience with bidding battery energy storage systems in the NEM or working with optimisation providers is highly regarded but not mandatory.

The main focus of the role will be optimisation of the Australian assets however there is an expectation that the Trading Manager will work closely with experts across different offices (Japan and the UK) as well as supporting new markets. This means there will be occasional out of hours calls and meetings.
