About us

Dyson is a global technology enterprise.  We solve the problems others choose to ignore, with surprising new inventions that defy convention and simply work better.  We’re driven by progress and thrive on the challenge of relentless improvement.

We value new ideas and diverse perspectives, so our people are trusted with real work and responsibility from the outset.  You’ll develop fast and have the chance to move into different business areas and regions.  And you’ll be part of a global network of curious people – a community that supports and learns from each other.

At Dyson we do things differently.  We look for the brightest new graduates with the right attitude to thrive in our unique culture.  We offer real jobs with real salaries and real prospects.  You will have the autonomy and freedom to excel and have real impact on our business.  We aim to inspire you to become our future leaders.  This is why we need creative thinkers, people who are motivated and drive themselves forward.

About the role

We push the boundaries of what others have defined as possible.  Our engineering approach starts with different thinking.  Then we continuously refine our ideas – unwilling to compromise and driven by an obsession for finding a better way. Today we are a global employer for software engineering, mechanical engineering, and science-related roles.

Our Verification and Test Team plays an integral part in determining how, when, and where we verify and validate innovative technologies and products to ensure designs are robust to real-world conditions and perform better than the competition. While our primary function is to verify requirements, at the early stages of a project we add value by characterising the performance of prototypes and feeding back data to drive good design.

As a Graduate Test Engineer, you will play a crucial role in supporting the testing and verification of our innovative products developed within the Research, Design, and Development (RDD) department. Future products often feature novel design concepts and new technologies, necessitating novel methods to assess their performance and robustness.

Your primary focus will be on developing new test methods throughout the design cycle, ensuring our capabilities align with evolving product requirements. You'll actively contribute to the creation and execution of experimental, ad-hoc testing for early prototypes, providing valuable data to influence optimal design decisions. Expertise in robust testing practices, along with the deployment of automation, control, sensing, and data acquisition solutions, will be integral to your success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Develop high-quality test method documents

  • Define equipment and setup requirements

  • Apply statistics tools to demonstrate method capabilities

  • Adhere to governance processes

  • Plan and execute experimental testing; designing ad-hoc setups for investigative tests that require novel, creative thinking

  • Analyse data using statistical techniques to draw robust conclusions about our product designs

  • Generate comprehensive test reports

  • Conduct task-based risk assessments to ensure safety standards are upheld for test activities

  • Collaborate with partner teams to specify, design, build or outsource complex and bespoke test equipment

  • Present test data to stakeholders, effectively communicating results by means of clear data visualisation skills

Our graduate programme is designed to develop your career at Dyson with a two-year journey, so you can grow both personally and professionally. We’ll help you to improve your knowledge and support your future career progression with workshops to give you baseline soft skills in addition to technical training. Our unique experiential journey provides a framework so you can reach your full potential with leadership talks, lunch-and-learns and more. You may have the opportunity to rotate into a variety of teams to support your professional development.

Please note

  • We do not offer hybrid/remote working for this position

  • We ask that you provide evidence of your work with your application if relevant (e.g., website or portfolio)

  • A cover letter is not required

About you

You will be contributing to the delivery of the next generation of Dyson technology, so you will need to be:

  • Working towards, or have achieved an accredited degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics, or a related field.

  • Able to evidence how you have applied your technical knowledge to solve problems, either through your university projects or as part of your extra-curricular activities.

  • Enthusiastic about up-skilling in emerging technologies (e.g., machine vision, image analysis, machine learning, and AI).

  • Desirable experience in CAD, fluid- and thermo-dynamics, PLC, Matlab, Python, robotic arms, and statistical techniques (measurement system analysis, hypothesis testing, reliability engineering).

  • Comfortable with a high degree of ambiguity and enjoys solving unprecedented problems.

  • Effective communicator with the ability to clearly present ideas both verbally and visually.

  • Knowledgeable and diplomatic – a great collaborator and receptive of constructive criticism.

  • Creative problem solver with the ability to balance responsibilities in a rapidly changing environment.

  • To be eligible you will need to have no more than two years of relevant work experience post-graduation (PhD students/graduates are not eligible for our graduate programmes).

Above all, you will want to have an integral part in bringing the next generation of Dyson technology to the world.
