Who we are...

Pearl Health is powering the future of healthcare. We help primary care providers and organizations to deliver quality healthcare to the patients who need it most, when they need it most — and get rewarded for keeping patients healthy.

Our technology, services, and financial tools enable better, more proactive care, decrease total cost of care across patient panels, and optimize performance in value-based care models for Traditional Medicare and Medicare Advantage.

We are a team of physicians and public health experts (Stanford, Harvard, Mount Sinai), technologists (athenahealth, Amazon, Meta, Flatiron), healthcare innovators (Centivo, Aledade, Stellar, Arcadia), and experienced risk management professionals (CVS/Aetna, Humana, Oscar) who believe that primary care providers are the key to addressing our healthcare system’s biggest challenges.

Since its founding in 2020, Pearl has expanded to partner with thousands of primary care providers in practices and organizations across 44 states. Our investors include Andreessen Horowitz, Viking Global Investors, AlleyCorp, and SV Angel.

The role...

We are seeking a Staff Data Scientist to play a key role in developing and implementing advanced analytical solutions that drive improvements in patient care and healthcare delivery. (For more information, see our white paper on the Signal-Action Framework.) The Staff Data Scientist will focus on designing and building scalable systems for clinical signal analysis, including predicting which beneficiaries have rising acuity, measuring intervention impact, and analyzing value-based care performance. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to translate complex clinical needs into robust and efficient data science solutions.

As a Staff Data Scientist on our team, you will...

  • Architect data pipelines and analytical frameworks that support the development and deployment of models for predicting patient risk, conducting causal analyses, and evaluating value-based care programs.

  • Evaluate, select, implement, and deploy appropriate machine learning, statistical, and causal inference methodologies for clinical data analysis, ensuring technical rigor and validity.  Stay current on the evolution of classical and generative ML methods.

  • Collaborate with Engineering, Product, Clinical Operations, Analytics, and Client Success teams to build best-in-class analytics systems that provide actionable insights to Pearl’s clinician partners and other stakeholders.

  • Establish and enforce technical standards and best practices for data analysis, modeling, and system design within the clinical signals domain.

  • Mentor and guide other data scientists and analysts in the development and application of clinical signal analytics.

  • Provide technical leadership in the design and implementation of data and machine learning infrastructure and ETL pipelines necessary to support clinical signal analysis.

  • Approach your work with a spirit of curiosity, innovation, and creativity to identify new concepts and new perspectives in the pursuit of company goals.

  • Serve as a thought partner to leaders within and outside the Data Science team in the development of new strategies to improve clinical and financial outcomes.

Who you are...

  • A graduate degree in a quantitative field such as statistics, applied mathematics, computer science, physics, astronomy, engineering, economics or a related discipline, and 8+ years of experience in performing results-driven quantitative analysis, preferably in a healthcare setting.

  • Strong programming skills in Python and SQL, with experience in data manipulation, statistical modeling, and machine learning.

  • Experience in designing and building scalable data science systems and infrastructure.

  • Deep understanding of machine learning algorithms, statistical inference and causal analysis.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Experience working in a cloud platform environment.  Experience with AWS, Sagemaker, dbt, and Snowflake is a plus.

  • A proven ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders, balancing deep insight with timely delivery while balancing company priorities.

  • Prior experience working with healthcare data in any part of the industry (payor, provider, pharmacy, etc.) and familiarity with healthcare terminologies and data standards is preferred but not essential.

  • Experience mentoring and collaborating with data scientists, data analysts, and data engineers to create a well-rounded data culture. Experience providing feedback on data science methods and approaches in related workstreams, and experience presenting your work and core competencies to a broader data team.
