Our Opportunity
We are currently seeking a Data Engineer for our Data Sciences Practice in Irvine, CA or Los Angeles, CA. In this role, you will work as part of a team to rapidly design and develop data-driven applications for a wide variety of industries, including healthcare, utilities, defense, and consumer electronics. You will have the opportunity to define and shape your individual consulting practice based on your skills and interests.
You will be responsible for
- Converting prototype engineering and data science models into production-grade applications
- Integrating and curating data across complex data models to support research and analytics
- Designing, implementing, and monitoring scalable data pipelines, optimizing for performance and cost efficiency
- Serving as a resident expert in databases and determining appropriate compute and storage solutions to meet anticipated needs
- Incorporating security best-practices into data storage and pipelines and designing roles and permissions for databases and cloud environments
- Supporting stakeholders with data provenance and data quality details needed for informed decision-making
- Collaborating in multi-disciplinary project settings with scientists, engineers, and business leaders
You will have the following skills and qualifications
- Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related engineering/scientific field OR M.S. in Computer Science or a related engineering/scientific field plus 3+ years of industry experience as a data engineer, cloud architect, or similar role after completing the M.S. degree
- High proficiency (3+ years) in Python using NumPy, Pandas, SciPy, and other scientific computing packages
- Experience with at least one other computing language (Pyspark, R, MATLAB, or Java preferred)
- Experience collaborating with other developers on production-grade software using version control (Git, SVN, or others)
- Demonstrated experience and expertise in one or more of the following domains, while developing expertise in other domains:
- Data Engineering, including ETL, data transformation, and development of data workflows
- Cloud Architecting, employing secure and scalable data warehousing, storage, and processing solutions
- Data Modeling
- Database Administration
- Power BI or other dashboarding experience a plus
- The desire to work with a diverse set of clients and engage in innovative work outside of the traditional computer science field
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to explain technical details to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams
- A proactive, self-driven approach to staying current with industry trends and emerging technologies

Compensation
Our consultants are rewarded for their technical and business contributions and have an opportunity to plan for future success and career growth. Exponent's total compensation plan is consistent with its expectations of the quality and quantity of work performed and with the professional standards set by Exponent. At the Associate and Senior Associate level, total compensation includes base salary, bi-weekly bonuses for high-intensity efforts, annual bonus and 401(k) employer contribution of 7% of base salary.
The base salary range for this position is dependent on experience and capabilities which will be assessed during the interview process.
Salary Range
USD $135,200.00 - USD $150,800.00 /Yr.Benefits you will enjoy
