Position Summary:

The growing and dynamic Renewables & Low Carbon Organization (“R&LC”) has a position open for a Senior Data Analyst.  This role provides a unique opportunity to develop a broad knowledge of the entire renewables industry.  The position is responsible for consulting and developing data analysis and visualizations supporting operational decision making.  This provides the successful candidate a front row seat in learning how R&LC generates value through each distinct business line (Trading, Compliance/Regulatory, Optimization and Scheduling).  Strong candidates should be well versed in both Tableau and Power BI (“PBI”), have strong to expert level SQL capabilities, have proven track record of integrating data sources into streamlined reporting and have strong interpersonal skills to liaise across all of MPC on R&LC’s behalf.

Primary Job Responsibilities: 

  • Work closely with Renewables team to identify business needs and develop information technology solutions to increase end user productivity and deliver business value
  • A primary focus will be the development of visualization tools for the organization (Developing new reports in Power BI, converting reports from Tableau)
  • Leverage tools like Tableau, Power BI, and others to provide users with better tools, access to data, and overall user experience
  • Recommend and implement improved procedures for updating manual reports through the use of newer technology
  • Interface with Commercial, IT, and the various MPC Teams to ensure information technology tools optimally support performance and use best practices
  • Locate, acquire, combine, and elevate data from the various internal and external systems to develop market intelligence that enables better decision making and group efficiencies
  • Recommend proper data management solutions and liaison with IT to develop necessary solutions
  • Support existing coast-to-coast systems/applications used within the Renewables organization
  • Monitor project progress by tracking activity, resolving problems, publishing progress reports, and recommending actions
  • Identify and exploit opportunities for sharing new analytical concepts and extending/leveraging other work groups’ efforts and MPC solutions
  • Maintain appropriate level of reporting and meetings to communicate ideas, proposals, progress, risks and issues

Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or Management Information Systems or related discipline. Other degrees will be considered if the applicant has demonstrated work history of high technical proficiency.
  • 5 years of industry-related experience required.
  • Technical experience in creating visualizations and dashboards in webtools such as Tableau and Power BI.
  • Familiarity with enterprise data, creating database queries, building database views, cross-reference tables, and a high proficiency with SQL for data extraction
  • High proficiency with Excel including charts, graphs, pivot tables and macros.
  • Preferred but not required experience:
    • RightAngle data extraction, Kittyhawk, SharePoint, MPR, COS
    • Data blending

  • Proven ability to think creatively and critically to solve problems given incomplete information and/or ambiguous requirements
  • Collaborative and performs well in a support role
  • Commercially driven with an eye for identifying enhancement opportunities
  • Communicates effectively with other internal and external IT personnel 
  • Ability to present and explain technical concepts to business audiences
